What does this wire do?

Post by 4ca » Wed Feb 01, 2006 11:13 pm

Hi guys,

I am trying to find out what a particular wire does.

My Wiring diagram only says this wire goes from the ECU to the 'Starter Circuit'........

Would this wire from the ECU run a relay prior to the starter motor for example? Is it normal for modern cars to have the ECU controlling the starter?

Any help appreciated

Cheers

More than likely its a tell-tale for the starter motor. This wire lets the ECU know the car is cranking, and adjusts settings to help starting, such as opening the injectors and widening the throttle bypass valve. You'll want it or the car will be really hard to start.

Blue wire with red trace? If so, exactly what has been said above.

BYB-01,

Yep... thats the one. Coming out of pin C10 on my three connector ECU.

Thanks for that. What is this wire connected to on the starter? Ie: Where is it getting its signal from?

thanks guys

My guess would be the thin wire on the throw out solenoid, the fat wire has constant power.

THIS ISA JUST A GUESS wait for someone in the know to confirm this.

The wire that runs to the ECU is actually a thin wire but is tapped in to the main blue/red wire that goes to the starter. Is is simply to tell the ECU that you are cranking the motor and trying to start it. It is very difficult to start the car with out it connected but it is possible.
