alternator issues

Post by D3V1L » Mon May 12, 2008 6:22 pm

today the ob started doin some strange things

apon startup the battery light comes on and so does the brake light (even when park brake disengaged)

it will stay on till i rev the titties off the motor then it goes away

ive been told its probably the regulator on the back which costs around $60 to replace

just after a second opinion before i pull the thing apart as i dont have the money to replace the whole alternator yet

Best thing to do is grab yourself a multimeter and check your battery voltage.

With the engine running (at idle should be fine) it should be between 13.2 and 14.4V

If it is outside this range, it could be quite possibly the regulator

Oh ok

It could be the regulator, or it could be the alternator. Its hard to test without dismantling the alternator and testing it seperately

It will be your regulator, had the same thing happen on a few different cars now, usually they dont drop out completely like yours initially.
