1998 Liberty Diff ratio
1998 Liberty Diff ratio
I have a 1998 liberty 5 speed manual with low range, anyone know what the rear diff ratio is or how to find out?
Other than pulling it apart!

Unsure about how to find it with out pulling it apart Richard, but you should drop the L series low range in it while its out of the car... while your doing that count the teeth on the crown wheel.subaruby wrote:I have a 1998 liberty 5 speed manual with low range, anyone know what the rear diff ratio is or how to find out?

What are you up to anyway? Sounds like you got an EJ conversion with the EJ box in mind... Let me know how it goes.

Look at the sticker on the gearbox and search it up. Is it Gen2 or Gen3 gearbox?subaruby wrote:I have a 1998 liberty 5 speed manual with low range, anyone know what the rear diff ratio is or how to find out?

I have a feeling it might be 4.11 if it came from Gen3 Liberty? If its from Gen 2 Liberty its more likely will be 3.7.
That is why it pisses me off with wreckers who dont include or write down the rear diff's ratio and they goes "oh aren't they all the same!" *groans*

Or stick your head up under the back of the car, the diff should have a sticker with the diff ratio printed on it. So long as you know no that no one has swapped the gearbox out it will be correct. My L series still has its sticker on it and that's an 1988 model...FROG wrote:bj same.. throw me your vin and i should be able to work it out

From Liberty onwards there never has been a sticker on the diff. Only MY and L Series did have a sticker. There was a Code but always wear off or falls off.El_Freddo wrote:Or stick your head up under the back of the car, the diff should have a sticker with the diff ratio printed on it. The only way is open the rear diff cover off to check the stamped ratios.
