latest observation, with wiring as per your diagram. connect battery up and low beams on with dash switch set to off, turn lights on at switch on dash, lights remain on but can switch high beams on at off at dash.
if i have the light switch off on the dash with low beams automatically on i can switch high beams on but not off?

turns out i didn't quite have it sorted. Last night had it working, so left it till this morning to solder everything up. After soldering checked again, and works except once u turn high beam on u can't turn it off. So double checked all conections and everything was ok, this time high beam worked, then it didn't then it did. So decided to see if my spotties still worked, no go so i hope the problem is linked to the spotties somehow, maybe a fuse. Anyway will have to leave it till tomorrow night.

This is exactly where I am up to as well,
with chattering relays when I put the power wires on.
It is not happy.
Do you mind if we keep it here and public so we can all learn from it?
Are you online tomorrow arvo Dave?
Cheers'

managed to get everything working, spotties, high beam low beam etc. Still have an intermitant faulty when sometimes i turn the high beams off at the switch they will still stay on. If you then pull the indicator stalk towards u like when "flashing" your high beams at someone and back to low beam it will turn them off. then you can switch high beam on and of normally for a while but then it will fail again.????????????????

Im only usually on at nights fellas. Weird that my wiring diagram works spot on with my car... i have double and tripple checked it... more than happy to help people work on getting theres sorted though. I should be ablke to modify my diagram based on any wiring... all i need is to know is what the state of each factory head light wire does when the headlights are OFF, ON low beam and ON high beam.

I had this same problem with my driving lights on the L series. It turned out to be either a dodgy relay or that i had the two relays (same brand/model) mounted side by side, i think something in one relay that's used to trigger power to the lights was holding the other one's switch mechanism closed all the time when it happened - it only happened randomly and to turn off the offending driving light i had to get out, pop the bonnet and tap the relay or wiggle a wire. Note: no wires were crossed or touching eachother and normal operation of the lights would continue til this thing would randomly happen again...subaruby wrote:managed to get everything working, spotties, high beam low beam etc. Still have an intermitant faulty when sometimes i turn the high beams off at the switch they will still stay on. With the different brand of relay in place of the maybe dodgy one i have not had the same problem appear... yet.
Hope this is of some value, if you have the relays mounted side by side try mounting them separated by a cm or something, or stick a different brand of relay in place of one (i'd imagine different brands would have a different layout internally).

ok latest update, think i have finally got it working. Tried a new relay, but no difference, so thought it must be getting some "feedback" into the relay. So put in a rectifer diode and seems to have fixed it. Not sure how or why though.
Thanks for the tip El freddo, they are different relays but are very close together, so will move them apart anyway

El-freddos tip kind of made sense to me as every time i pulled apart the wiring and change something it would work and then whe i put it back together (and the relays side by side) it would go dodgy again. Anyway the relays are seperated now and so far its working ok?
To anyone who is considering the upgrade, its highly recommended, massive increase in light output and quality. Previously when turning on my spotties there was a huge difference, now i can hardly tell if they are on.
Thanks to all for the helpfull comments.
