I have some serious blow-by in me Brumby to the extent that it is pressurising the crankcase enough to keep blowing out the dipstick and rattled loose 'and away she goes' my oil fill cap yesterday, or was that today ?? been a long one.... seems to run better now that cap has gone and gees does it blow up that pipe.

wondering if the blow by is just one cylinder also causing my unusual noise,vibration and hardness when drivng above light acceleration, which is getting worse.

only yesterday did a miss at idle occur - in #3

to be useless to anyone I have not done a comp or leakage test

the miss comes and goes


little wonder due to the hard revs over 180,000k since full rebuild

so the 92 Brumby engine is being prepared to go in the red 84, it is original and has twice as many kms on it and will have new gasket and seals before it goes in

my brumby had heaps of blow by and did happen to loose the oil filler cap but after new cap fitted it never fell off again

the engine has now been removed and i am fuly rebuildin another ea81 for it but nothin this extreme

the other thing that may cause this could b the PCV may be stuck causein the blow by to build up and blow the dipstick out

you should clear out your PCV valve and hoses and that coz it shouldn't be blowing the dipstick and cap off

you should do a compression test aswell but a leakage test isnt really necessary as it is mainly piston rings if it has blowby

my engine has some blowby but im not caring about it..hasnt done anything like pop the dipstick out or shake the oil cap plus doesn't misfire yet

My last MPFI was seriously overheated but i couldn't stop (narrow road with double lines) so pushed it way past what it should have been.

Last time i drove it (onto the trailer to tow home) it created a smoke screen, had a serious lack of power and blew smoke out of crevises in the engine that i've never seen and the radiator without the cap looked like a jakoozi, with the cap on and leaning towards the radiator you could hear it bubbling away and pressurising the cooling system.

I'm still yet to take the heads off this engine and see what the damage is. I have my bets on one piston having a hole in it and two well cracked heads...

Now i'm enjoying my rebuilt MPFI. Feels great to actually feel a surge of power when pulling up a hill or from a standing start.

thinking EJ20 for one of the utes, but that is down the track. I goota finish immediate engine swap, finish GLTA, then LPG it, then swap it into a Brumby b4 anything else. Whatever i do to my uncles old Brumby I hope he will appreciate so long as it is faster- what I have done to it this week he will not - it was a goer with oil leaks

was thinking gauge the differences as a comparison, have mate with the all measuring devices. this thing is BAD . it is in limp home mode

blows no smoke uses no oil so oil rings must still be good

The swap is done and boy was the old motor thoroughly noisy compared to the one i just dropped in (with 379,000 km on it too ! ) it has transformed the ute to something like a new car. I can hear the gears again, can't hear the engine except the exhaust note.

It is surprising just how bad something can get gradually over time and you not notice it.

I did all gaskets and seals possible, excluding oil pump, well because, will have to do that tomorrow coz it leaks, as did the old oil pressure switch.

Been scrubbing down the old motor readying it for autopsy.

If you want to see some really good blow by pictures , Subydazz has some stunners of oil smoke coming out of my old L. Apparently Subaru even had a service bulletin saying not to drive steeply downhill with the left hand side lower than the right as it might cause errr, problems :P
