EA82T - EA82T what to replace?

Ok, this will test ya’s (sorry if its in the wrong section)

When the new engine gets here (sorry for those of you that do not know we are talking about 1 of the only low km Jap Import EA82T) and before it goes in the engine bay and bolted up for a thrashing this is what I am looking at replacing.
Ready – DEAP BREATH – here we go…
- Timing Belts.
- Front Crank seal.
- Cam Seal (x2).
- Cam O ring seal (x2).
- Oil Pump Kit.
- Gear and Rotor set.
- Water Gaskets, including water bypass hose and o ring.
- Timing belt Idler pulley bearing.
- Rear crank seal.
- Oil separator plate gasket.
- Thermostat and thermostat gasket.

In addition to this I will also be checking, and replacing if required, the following…
- Manifold bypass hoses - both RHS and LHS.
- Turbo hoses – both upper and lower.
- Radiator hoses – both top and bottom.
- Heat tab on engine block (they tell me there is 1 on there).
- Might look at cold air induction, however still like the idea of snorkel

The basic service is a given…
- Air, fuel and oil filters
- Spark plugs.
- New oil, and radiator coolant, plus distiller water.
- To the WA regulars I MIGHT even replace my battery – thinking = lol
- I was thinking about the clutch however, I have not had any issues with the current set up and she is showing no signs of slipping?
Any suggestions on this 1?

PHEW… Is there anything else you would suggest/recommend/I might have missed???

I haven't quite decided yet! I think I'll put a flexable pipe on mine so I can move the filter up into the spare wheel space, and put some sort of splash guard on the front to keep the water off it.

Alternatively, you could just seal the air box and add a snorkel :? so much LESS hassle.

:lol: you forgot about the poor old fuel pump......I know its one expensive item tho...cost me about $190 + $40 new fittings/hoses. but looks like you got a big shopping budget there 8)
Decide on replacing clutch when engine is out, and you can inspect, if its half worn or more, just replace is what i'd do.

jaffa pull the whole intake manifold off your existing motor with all the sensors injectors etc to put on your new motor.some of the turbo's run different tps sensors and a sensor is missing.this way you'll be able to plug str8 in.i guess that'll make 2 manifold gaskets to the list.Cheers Will

Thanks Fred, i think that the fuel pump is only 12 months old so fingers crossed.
Posite i will be trying to take as much as possible off the existing engine - i thought that they were different so thanks.

Oh and just to make this even more complex :x
When driving the car on the wkd i decided to put the a/c on, Thinking that this would kill the engine at idle, actually made it run smooooother :?

This problem is really getting to me... on a positive note though IF i can figure it out then no need to change engines.

Jaffa, this does sound curable. However having the other EA82T is great anyway, provides good backup especially considering they are very scarce.

Get in touch with Molly and see if he's going to use that spider manifold, I'd guess not as somehow his flow bottleneck is the t/b, I believe he's making a hi-po EA82t and maybe he won't need that manifold. Spiders give you more power ;)

As I've said before, I'll do as much as I can to help, unfortunately I can't this weekend but should be free next.

Hey, Tim, yer i am starting to think that this is curable as well... its just how bloody long will it take to come up with a solution, however I agree its going to be a massive advantage to have a spare engine as the day will come when she goes pop.

Yeah it still sounds to be a relatively minor problem to me....you still have good power, and no terminal noises. Just a case of tracking it down! I might have some time to throw your way on Sunday for abit of a general troubleshooting session, can't do any harm if your up for it. :D

If you're going to pull the inlet manifold off, replace the small pipe that runs from the front of it, to underneath the manifold & attaches to the block.
It'll be just to the left of the power steer pump (or where it would be).

They have a tendency to break sometimes & the ONLY way to replace it is to pull the manifold off.
Replace it with EFI fuse hose & you'll never have to worry about it again.

OK, it would appear that after several months of head scratching the diagnosis is… Blown head gaskets 8O

Therefore, despite how very anil and anxious I am about this, I am thinking that I should get to work sooner rather then later. Those that wish to get their hands dirty you know where I live, and i am sure that we will be catering this event :lol:

I’ll get specifics on here once I know more, however the initial thoughts are... change engine, bolt/wire it up the same as the existing engine and in the process swap any bits from old engine onto new as the import is a newer engine- EG new engine has 3 wires comming out of the dizzy and the old only has 2 therefore use existing or old dizzy.

Your thoughts?

Actually, rebuilding an engine is something I'd like to help with. Never had to open up an engine in my life.

Tim if you are up for the trip North then you are more then welcome as long as you can face the fact that it IS an EA turbo and not an EJ trubo :oops: - sorry mate :lol:
