here's the latest idea/modification i've been toying with... been running through my head since i got the brumby....what does every ute need? a roll bar. so given thet they dont make em, and if they do they are custom. got a quote from one place for a front and rear bar in the tray at $700. Stick that.

next thought, modify one from a different car, donor vehicle Nissan Navara D40. here are the results. not welded or in position yet but give me a week. will be mounted on an aluminium checkerplate surround, ready for the checkerplate cover over the lot...

for anyone else interested in this, its a pretty simple mod so far. buy roll bar (i picked this one up for $100), cut 350mm out of centre, reweld, be inventive and make mounts to bolt it to. all roll bars will be different so dont rely on the 350mm to be accurate for everything

reverse spottie, lug for mounting cable and winching things on, possible an ariel mount (just in case) and she'll look the goods

dont get enough time for doing this... 55hrs at work each week doing this kinda work doesnt exactly keep me motivated to do it at home all weekend too

here are my efforts today. just have to polish where i welded the 2 halves together and weld the bars onto the checkerplate

I like it dude... good stuff.... I would be making that center section of checker plate hinge up or down so you can still carry big stuff in there. I recall helping u lift out some shelving that would currently not fit unless u changed it a little.

Yeah a large tool box possibly... i still believe we need to think of a way to make whatever goes there removable or something.

make that existing piece hinge like dave said- then get/make a toolbox that slides under and can lock to that piece.
