Old technology but does give the good basic ideas of a turbo
You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.

Turbonetics makes (casts) a variety of their housings but much of it is dated Garrett technology they've bought the rights to .
Assembling a turbocharger from new clean parts is not that difficult , particularly a bush bearing one . Provided there are no manufacturing defects the hardest hands on part is manipulating circlip pliers and torquing up the compressors jamb nut without bending the turbine shaft . Basically you stand the cartridge vertically in a jig that has a socket into which the turbines outer side hex or double hex is . It has another socket driven by a supported T bar to spin the nut up . Experienced hands can get the torque nearly perfect but check with a special torque wrench anyway . Balancing is as they showed you .
Garretts BB cartridges are even easier as you have no bushes circlips or the thrust collar and plate to fit . Merely slip the bearing pack into the center housing and the oil inlet ferrule locates in the outer shell of the bearing pack anchoring it in the bearing housing/center section .
The saddest part about rebuilding a turbos center is that the piston ring that seals exhaust gas out often chops the turbine groove and center housings register out . So if your up for a new turbine and center housing often you may as well just buy a new cartridge and fit your existing housings onto it . This is usually the cheapest fastest option provided your cartridge is available . It was the reason why Garrett was reluctand to rebuild ball bearing cartridges but they do nowdays where possible .
