Sugestions on gearbox
Sugestions on gearbox
Hey guys i have picked up a cheap 97 wrx motor my next purchace will be a gearbox and diff but i am unsure on what gearbox to search for i need the strength for the turbo but i also want low range.
The first thing that comes to mind is a foz gt box but i am worried that this will be hard to find and very expensive
Thanx Brendan

Just get a dual range box from a Liberty or Forester. No factory turbo Subaru came with a dual range gearbox (except of course for the RX Turbo) and get a diff with a ratio to match.
What are you gonna use it for?

the GT box's didnt have a low range no turbo subi ever came with them.
so the really only choice for low range is a non-turbo gearbox but there not as strong

If you don't abuse the box it'll hold up. Venom has a H6 in front of what is essentially an L series gearbox... It still drives hard and we're all keeping an eye out to see how long it lasts with his style of driving - which is gentle on the clutch and gear changes, he's not afraid to give it some when it's smooth...Rumbl1n wrote:Hey guys i have picked up a cheap 97 wrx motor my next purchace will be a gearbox and diff but i am unsure on what gearbox to search for i need the strength for the turbo but i also want low range.
Go the foz dual range from the 2 litre. You'll get 4.11 ratio diffs (perfect for 27's), decent low range and it's the best "bolt in" option of all the subaru gearboxes!B00sting wrote:what about a newer outback box d/r manual?

1.61 low range. Don't bother asking for a quote, sold out for months and months.taza wrote:Why bother, then you only have a 19% reduction low range vs the Forester 45%(Brumby has the same ratio) or L-Series 59%.

Did any foz have 4.44 ratios? Because my plan is the outback d/r 4.44 matched with the 1.61 above.
