only it went out, again with no log catching...
So I used 6 of the briquettes and encircled a corner of one of the logs.
I woke up thirsty and warm
and my bedroom, about 15 feet away from the fire
its now a snug 20 C.

I found that stacking the wood that is starting to ignite surprisingly effective;
once one catches, if there's more wood on top the flames get more than twice as big and twice as hot!

The owner used to keep the fire going round-the-clock usually
perhaps to keep from needing to re-light it. (talk about carbon-emissions

He only let it go out occaisionally, and I never saw how he relit it.
He always insisted to do it himself.
I'm content to start a new fire every evening and let it burn itself out by morning especially if the house is already warm.
But I suppose that means I spend up to $1 every day in briquettes to get it going... I think it's worth it for how easy it is.
