Spotted: One beauty of a Brumby

Post by Silverbullet » Sun Jun 19, 2011 6:18 pm

Just had to tell someone that might care

This morning after my weekly indoor flying (yes indoor flying) we were all out in the carpark talking about this that and the other when what did I see but the best looking and sounding Brumby I have ever seen drive past. Only caught a few seconds from about 50 meters away (it was fast :-D) but from what I saw it was lifted (2 or 3 inches) and had BIG offroad tyres, bullbar, a few big antennas (UHF radio?) spotlights all along the roof. And the sound, oh the sound. It was the EA81 I could tell, but I've never heard one sound so nice :o Hard to explain in words but made me a bit weak at the knees  When it went out of sight I could hear it shifting through the gears going off down another street for ages, with a pop at the end of one shift.

Of course my excitement was greeted by looks of complete confusion by everyone else (it must be a Subaru thing) And I was thinking how could that be around and the driver not part of this forum?? :p So, who was it? Doubt if anyone on here would know (It was southern suburbs of Adelaide, white Brumby for what it's worth ;))

I've never seen it before, doubt if I will see it again :( they were probably just passing through. Anyone else have stories of amazing Subies they've seen and not know anything about? Just round the corner from me there is a front yard with 4 Subarus in it, all red. One lifted brumby, a liberty, impreza hatch and one other. Obviously Subaru fans, but not in this forum?

That's all, I'll calm down now

I know what thats like, I see brumbys down here all the time and my wife thinks I need help (probably right) as well there is a white L series sedan I see ocassionally that Im sure has had a conversion, once again same thing... wifey gives me a strange look then we continue on.

Funny thing is that when she sees another forester she goes "nope just a petrol one not a turbo diesel... mine is better"

Digging up this thread again, I found it! :-D I saw it again today and have a good idea of where it lives. Drove past a side street and it popped out, got a closer look this time but still fleeting. Had a blue/green shield thing above the grille that says "Rascal"

Definitely going to go down that street one day and hunt it down ;)

Could be, looked like something to deflect wind/debris off the windshield. I've seen a few bigger 4WD's with them.

do tell, do tell (maybe by pm), I'm keen to catch another look. One of us will have to pull the owner in to the forum. he/she might be a bit amused (or disturbed) with the attention.

btw, where abouts are you?

Well as soon as I get my car back together I can go out hunting! It's my mission to find this guy and tell him about the forums, I can't believe he'd have such a modded Brumby (obviously enthusiast) and not be here.

mattw I live around Flagstaff hill / aberfoyle, only times I've seen it were around The hub though. Last time it was on Hub drive.

Haha nice coincidence! Do you drive around in a Subie? I'll have to keep a look out ;) My car is off the road still so you won't see me driving around, unless I'm in dads white L series ;)

great work fellas.... Not that I was around to catch a look.
I'm at Flaggy. I upgraded my turbo L tourer for a Gen 3 Outback a while back. But now the missus has an option that she is willing to drive, I'm usually relegated to the Mazda during the week.
