Can the brumby roll freely without the gearbox

hi guys,

may come across as a stupid question but I thought it was worth asking rather then wasting time mucking around with it.

The brumby is about to go off to the paint shop and is completely stripped other than the gearbox. I would like to get the gear box out as it would make it easier to clean/install the lift kit and a couple of other things. Just wondering what I need to remove for it to just roll freely on the wheels? do I just leave the CV's hanging and spinning freely?

Yep that's about it - pop the ball joint back into the bottom of the hub or the control arm and you're done. Also remove the prop/drive shaft down the the rear. The front will sit super high but it should be ok.

cheers bennie, thought so but I figured abusing the knowledge on here was going to save a bit of time.

yeah it sure is, many months of planning and it is all finally happing, will put some pics in my write up of it at the moment as a rolling shell and then after paint and all the extras. I tell you what there won't be many parts on it that haven't been changed over by the time we are done haha

You will need to make a pair of brackets to hold the driveshafts close to the crossmember

Here are the ones i used

I took them of after fitting the gearbox

They are attached to the lower control arm bolts

You may be able to juggle box from one side to the other to disconnetc the DOJ end of the shafts on the box output splines without undoing ball joints- I did, with no engine in on the L Series, but they may have more room being wider than Brumby
