Forester Seat Implant Pics.

steptoe wrote:Thanks for the reply on seats. Don't s'pose you have any six foot two friends to take a seat and comment. I like to think I am not all legs, so an average looking kinda six footer plus two shoved in yer drivers seat would do to find out if he she has good noggin clearance. I am also 80kg. Someone with a bigger girth sort of sits further forward on a seat because of the extra ahem , padding and distorts data , and the seat too, further down the road!

I got one Mazda 626 88 - 91 driver seat in with its height adjuster and would suit someone afew inches shorter so stripped more guts out from under and starting again by making forward backwards rails to fit the mountings on floor first - and stopped there with one seat in the bath, another cluttering up shed floor space.

They are a beaut match in velour grey. I like the warning on welding and NOT melting any plastic bits - I will have a small plastic welding job to do when all finished :)

I did spy early Mazda MX5 seats that would be my first choice, sexy, thinner in the back for long legs, mounting points look right, narrow seat and similar but more comfy than original Brumby seats _ I think we all got the same around the world from the sounds of it

I notice that you are about the only one that can make much use of the websites time clock, fortunate for you.

Jono
Hey Jono,
I took some snaps early this Sunday morning (very cold minus 3 deg & heavy frost). - but a beaut' clear sunny morning......at long last.
I was up early because I had to drop my daughter off at a local Gynastic's competition. It was then a race back home and load the bike and gear up into the truck.....and off to ride a trial near to Keighley.
I managed to picture the seats in the truck and the mountings which I have arrived at.
I hope this shows you that you can gain some extra inches. I'll try and get a mate of mine to sit in the cab he's a big bugger so I'll let you know how he fit's in - could be a week or 2 before I see him though.

You'll see the bike just fits sugly in the back of the truck.......
The trial I rode today was a toughie.....but great fun and lots of exercise!

Rust? Rust?? Achtung verboten!!!

Post by 1111giles » Mon Mar 08, 2010 8:32 am

steptoe wrote:WOW !! Just turned my pictures on! Now , that is one very tidy Brumby. I am sort of partial to red single headlight models. I 'll have to polish mine up and take a few pics to email you. We have a 15 inch version of the mini minilites that look so schmacko on a red car (my opinion anyway) Is that rust inside the tray at wheel arch tops? I have a tailgate that would look more at home on your salted roads:( . Shod with 195 50 15's they retain same size as the 175 70 13's for regualations
Hi - Well spotted, what you spotted is actually the repair of the wheel arches we carried out. Trucks here suffer from corrosion starting in the gap that's between the rear shocker hangers and the inside of the rear wheel arches. Typically caused by a build up of mud or if on a farm animal crap which is then kept damp by our rainy climate = corrosion plus add the dreaded road salt!!
Mine was no different in this respect.
Most guy's here simply slap on a plate on the inside and weld around it to effect a repair.
We carefully chopped out any corrosion in this area and then let in a sculptured copy cat repair piece we got it in snug and then welded fully round. Levelled it off and now it looks as original.
The colour differance you spotted is the temporary red oxide primer used to fend off any rust whilst awaiting the application of the spray on load liner, which is now on. The black is seam sealer.
There was no point re-spraying the butt to then cover it with the liner.
If you google speedliner or visit http://www.walkdengroup.co.uk you will see the kind of system used in my truck. I can recommend this approach as the tuffness is amazing!
Please see attached images of finished butt. Since pics were taken I have put the rubber bungs back in to the Butt bed holes.
I'd like to see the minilites if you have a piccy? My wheels were the standard here I've 100% shot blasted and powdercoated mine.
A couple of guys I know have fitted 5 stud weller wheels one was because of fittment of a impreza turbo engine and he didnt fancy the original 4 studs and puny tyres to survive too long!

Also would like to see your highly polished truck !!!

Cheers
Giles

OK Guys, just emailed Giles in UK...This front is being cut tomorrow I'm told so this project is advancing and we can get this off to the UK for him. Photos coming tomorrow I hope and more when it is prepared prior to shipment by Pack and Send Toowoomba.

Giles asked about the engine. I'm told by the previous owner that the power plant is out of an 84 model with the 89 heads from this car installed. Engine performed well, slight oil usage but reliable motor, Kilometers unknown.

Tray condition

Hi Jono,
I can honestly say that the condition of the tray and cab bulkhead was as new. The original paint (which had lived all its life under a bone dry wooden load deck) was as glossy as the day it was applied ! If I can find a piccy I'll post it up.
ps sorry that the images dont appear straight away - and only as a click on jpeg. Am I loading them correctly??

Hey Just found a couple of pics which show what it was like!

Cant wait to see Trev's pictures of the cut!
Cheers
Giles.

leave pics as they are so page loads easy each time - it is a little more considerate for those on low MB plans. I view this site on no pics myself.

Ok, the export brumby was cut in two today and is getting ready to go. I have spoken with Giles in the UK this evening and he has seen these photos.

I was a bit disappointed about the cut because I thought they would cut it through the floor and the bottom of the windscreen pillars and just leave the dash and forward of that. Anyway, looks like he is getting the cab and seats too. The rear diff and axle assembly has been placed behind the rear of the cab. Not how I would have done it. Anyway, hopefully it should be on its way soon.

Quick, stick a bullbar on it before it goes. It'll help protect the whole front end in transit, won't add to the freight cost and old mate Giles will have the only Brumby in Pomieland with a bullbar!

Actually not a bad idea in principal.....I'll email to suggest some sort of cushioned protection for the front....maybe remove the lights etc and pop em in the cab.
Giles.

There are bull bars here but nothing like the whacko ones you guys have! I have no idea what the traffic plods here would say if I actually bolted on some of the bullbars I've seen you guys have......truly bonkers!
The UK DOT (department of transport) have passed legislation which states that now that any new bull bars have to be pedestrian friendly and as a result a lot of them are made out of plastic. aka the new Discovery 's nose job add on.
Over here they are (or were) only for show and rarely used for the actual job they were intended for! (ie clattering animals outa the way!)

Mate. it had a bull bar on it as you can see but was sold before you bought the front. I should have got Pat to drop the thing at home here and I could have prepped the thing properly before transit. I'm a bit embarrassed about how it has been presented for shipment. I might see where it is and if that could be done. I would feel better if I could get a good go at it in my shed and have those things that you have asked for done before it goes..Its a long trip you know.

Were getting there..........

Post by 1111giles » Thu Mar 11, 2010 3:21 am

Trev, If you could chase it down then I would be forever grateful!
Pat emailled me today to advise that pack and send could'nt lift the truck off the delivery trailer, at their end (I suspect that they maybe dont have fork extensions on their fork lift truck) Pat went on to say that they had brought it back to his yard and that pack and send would be making a pallet - they would then bring this to pats yard on their truck and the cut will be then lifted on there using Pat's (larger yard) lifttruck. I guess once its back at pack and send they will then be able to lift it off safely because of the pallet.

Mate if you can check this situ out for me and possibly look into protecting the radiator/condensor and possibly removing the lights and f/mud flaps we spoke about - then that would be fantastic. I'll see you right for your time no worries.

Cheers
Giles.

Industrial bubble wrap gents

Im sure Giles would love that 2 feet of bubble wrap around the whole cut and pallet and it would keep the cane toads comfy as they enjoyed their cruise around the world

Ok. Just came from pack and send. It is as you said. The car has gone back to the wreckers and a special pallet is being made for it. That pallet will the have to be painted for quarantine reasons and then the car will be mounted onto the pallet at Pats wrecking yard and will go from there to Brisbane (our port). The unit will only be able to be lifted via the front and in Brisbane it will be inserted into a shipping container and from their it should travel safe. Their only concern is its transit from here to Brisbane which is about an hour and a half. I mentioned the headlights and front cardboard protection, The guy from Pack and Send said that he would look after all that and that he will personally go over to the wrecking yard and pack it and tie it down. I'm happy with that and I think its gonna go ok. But this may take a week while this special pallet is being organised. Meanwhile I will go and see it and drop a few things in the cab for you, and see where the keys are also.
