L Series and "Loyale" Heaters

I recently bought a "Loyale" heater core from the US fairly cheaply - thinking they would be the same. Alas its apparent that they are quite different between the two countries.

The one I got from the US (72011GA220) is fully metal and a different size - unlike its horrid plastic tanked little brother here in Australia.

I went through the unpleasant task of removing the dash/heater in my second L Series and took it to a local fellow who managed to squeeze a Mitsubishi heater core into the box.

So if anyone can use a brand new, genuine heater core - thats apparently useless in local L Series - let me know

What heater core was it form the Mitsubishi??

I need to replace the one in my L too......

He didn't write it on the invoice - but you contact him. His name is Adam from Red Devil Radiators in Strathpine 3205 6155. Just ask him about the L Series heater he did recently - that should make him shudder.

He's a busy fellow - but honest.

why not just buy a full metal L series one from Australia? I had to ring around abit when I was inquiring but they are available.

I got the big "NOT AVAILABLE" when I enquired about them. Adam @ Red Devil could not source an L Series unit either.

I had also heard that when they were available they were like $400. I had bought the one from the US for less than A$100

As far as I can make out the genuine one needed is 72011GA120

Also Justin - Adam @ Red Devil did have to modify the pipes on the Mitsubishi one - but he did a good job. It slotted back into the firewall perfectly.

Red devil at strathpine sourced a L series metal one for me about 2 years ago it came up from melbourne. costly $200 though.

Yeah this one was $220, Will (fitting of new pipes and installation into heater box included) which I thought was pretty reasonable.

Maybe they are still out there - least I got a metal one and its in the car.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrr NO. Wish you had of send me a PM or something. I got a new full metal core about 8 weeks ago not a problem (freighted from Brisbane). Good to hear that its all worked out in the end though.

genuine shouldnt matter that much anyway, most people are using original "genuine" shitty plastic ones

if it's metal it's better either way

Agreed - those plastic tanks are an incredibly crap idea (I guess there was a reason they did it). I was just trying to get an idea of the price of the genuine ones. I guess genuine=plastic. Old Mate Radiator bloke was not a fan of putting a plastic tank back in there - so I let him do his thing.

don't think anyone said that. I was just pointing out that the original genuine ones are plastic. I'm sure they are all metal these days. *edit - and that even a non genuine metal one is probably still alot better than the original genuine plastic ones.

Eventually one day everything has to break - it just depends on how its been treated during its lifetime. I'm pretty sure the MY heater cores are all metal like their radiators in the front of the car are.
