replacing hub stub axle

Hi all,

What's the proper way of getting a hub stub axle into a rear bearing (i.e. the short solid shaft that goes through the bearing then the hub)? I've just had the bearing replaced and I'm about to put the trailing arm back on.

It's a very tight fit and the way I got it out was by swinging a big hammer at it, but can I damage the bearing if I do that when replacing the shaft into the bearing?

tap the stub axle in gently (make sure the big round nut is back on before you put the stub axle back on) and when it has come through the bearing enough on the front side to go through the hub with enough thread to put the cone washer and castle nut on use the socket or spanner you used to undo everything to tighten it up to pull the bearing in the rest of the way then undo it again and put the washer on if you haven't got it on there and give it the final tighten up
