Post by sb2752 » Mon Aug 04, 2008 9:39 pm

hi if anybody can help me it will be much apprecieated. I just bought an
ea82t motor for my 88 L series wagon, its runing a carbie motor so i have to convert it to turbo efi. im new to the subaru world so i need some tips. The turbo motor came with
full harness
fule pump
air flow meter air box
ecu
cat converter
and speedo cluster
I know i need an dump pipe, bigger fule lines, and i heard something about a crossmember, the motor didnt come with a turbo so if anybody know wats the best turbo to use it would help me a lot

Turbo engine crossmember may be what you heard. It has a nice curvy scallop on RHS to allow exhaust crossover pipe to go up to the turbo. For what it is worth I bodgied up an EA81 block on EA81 engine cross member and the EA82T crossover pipe. By tapping the heat shield flat to the pipe underneath I gained 10mm clearance to the crossmember. I am counting on this mod when (I finally get around to) fit my EA82T in my Brumby (factory EA81)

Look in for sales, someone did have a croos member for 50 bucks

Hey sb2752,

Where are you? Sounds like you've got all the bits to start with - unlike me when I did my MPFI conversion in my L, I was always excited that it was going to go only to find I was missing another part of the puzzle... The joy of learning ;)

If you're near a pick a part type wreckers scout around for the turbo engine crossmember if you don't want to mod the one you've got, if you find one of them you may find the down pipe and turbo you're after.

The XT vortex is another good source of turbo parts if you can find one.

Cheers

if you have no turbo then for an easy way to get avail stuff grab a wrx td04 and matching dump pipe. they will be easier to find than the stock items.
you will also need an efi fuel tank and pump.
an intercooler wouldnt hurt either.

ea82t motors can be specd up to the ej22 power levels. things that may help are a water to air intercooler off a liberty rs turbo, boost controller, bigger turbo :p

Matt here would be the bloke to pick the brains of. He just ditched his EA82 Turbo for an EJ22, so would remember the turbo performance compared to the new EJ he's got.

Also ask Suparoo, he's got an EA82 in his L wagon.

I've never had the EA82 turbo, but have travelled in Blackmale's unit and I was really something compared to the carbie EA or the MPFI non turbo EA82.

Cheers

can be specced up to EJ22 ? From memory I selected/chose to stick with the EA82T coz standard has same torque rating as EJ22, then there are two EA82T specs :)

and for the first time tonight i drove an EJ22 FWD lib 4 speed auto, still like my EA82T 3 speed auto. OOooo maybe I didn't squeeze the lib hard enough as the owner was in his other lib in front of me oooOOO
