ive used a bobcat and a mini excavator to remove an engine from a type RA sti once

Yeah, there certainly is that ! I have to say that someone hit it on the head - being able to roll the car back a little or forwards a little with an engine suspended from above IS easier than trying manouvre a crane when working alone, and less to trip over or just blindly walk into.

I found an eight metre length of 65 x 35mm RHS 3mm thick gal plated for $65. I plan to fit a support either side of a brick column in the shed, join it top and bottom to support the bricks, cap it off at the top - and that is one side sorted with the remains to be attached across to another removable support that is about 100x100 and six millimeters thick, a few braces and all should be sweet. ta for the ideas shared

I made my own using a wind up suby jack and some lengths of tube on a flat bed trolley frame.

Hi Dave
Work has kept me busy but i have changed jobs for one that gives me more money and less hassles.I didnt realize how long i havent been here.
The vortex is being rebuilt slowly.

Steptoe
My engine puller looks the same as a store puller but doesnt use a bottle jack.
The trolley has 8 wheels and can hold the weight of a small car.it can fit through a standard door frame.
The puller is removable and the trolley has a flat deck for moving objects like furniture and i have other fittings that attach to it for various jobs.

Im a fan of the engine crane as they are getting cheap plus you dont have to lift move the car lift move the car lift etc especially when removing engine and gearbox complete!
Also most of the old hydraulic jack style are easy to fix just top them up with fresh diff oil then they get by! also I have seen a bent HIAB a freind had his fully extended (fine for something as light as an engine) But he undid all the hoses etc on an old dodge truck and although he backed off the engine mount nuts forgot to remove them! Not pretty lifting a truck with an arm extended to 250 Kgs.
