Sorry, I had to laugh at this one dave, its got a bit of a comical outlook on the whole timing belt thing...

Matt, looking good mate, those lift blocks you welded don't look to be 2 or 3 inch blocks, what's going on there? I thought you had a 3 inch lift?

And a question for those in the EJ change know: Is it easier to wire in the EJ loom to an MPFI loom or carbie loom on the L series?

Cheers

nah its still a 3"kit bennie, nothing changed there. as for the wiring it wouldnt matter because the EJ wiring doesnt really even touch that side of things. think of it as a separate loom in your car. the L stuff is only in there for the lights, indicators etc.
but if you have an MPFI fuel tank and pump that helps things out.

sorry didnt take any photos of it. i wouldnt really be able to answer your question really anyway. all i know is that the main wires you need to splice in are: ign, start, thermo fans, about 5 earths, fuel pump, speed sensor, neutral position wire, check engine light, oil gauge, temp gaugethen theres all the engine plugs you need to keep too. my wiring is gonna be hooked up tonight and tomorrow so fingers crossed she's running by midday sat.

last night i spend another 2 odd hours filing the flywheel holes. thats the hardest part of the conversion i reckon!

then with the timing belt covers back on and clutch stuff bolted up tight, time to put the motor in.

well as expected made some progress on the weekend with the car. Thanks to D3V1L dave, alex, jussy, andrewt, and matatak for the help.
Fri night picked up an ej accelerator cable from wreckers but for some reason it was an inch too short? so a custom bracket was made. with some grinding late at night haha
Dave got the essential wiring done on sat morning and then we spend the rest of the morning trying to work out why she wouldnt start up. sounded like it almost would. turned out to be the timing which we were certain we'd done right lol. so for future reference the timing marks on the crank of an ej22 are on the far side of the sprocket- barely noticeable and not the arrow on the front.
ANYWAYS got that done and she fired first go. i couldnt get the smile off my face everytime she started up.
so ive got the rest of the main engine stuff back together and most of the ecu wires hooked up but cant do the rest as something is not right with my ea wiring somehow. see this thread.....here.....
so just spent the arvo pulling most of the dash apart and testing everything we thought was causing the problem.
we did go for a test run around the block tho. a car with no front fenders or bonnet with only headers on scared a few onlookers :) good thing im moving soon so these neighbors dont have to put up with this kind of thing for much longer hah

dont have any photos or video as left camera at mates house.

well i cant stop smiling so as u probs guessed its done. just went for my first decent drive. i had to try really hard not to spin wheels or go too fast as its very wet around. sounds gnarly with just the headers on popping everywhere, i thought i was a rally car haha

the wiring prob was resolved by hooking up power to the ign fuel fuse as there was a wire tapped into there ever since i had the car- and i cut it accidentally thinking it wasnt doing anything.
only things left now are oil n temp wires, zorst and a vacuum hose under the dash need to be fixed.
man it feels good. a completely different car.

I am hoping that one day i get to see this beasty in the flesh, sounds awesome.

Must be a great feeling having pretty much completed it... Can you tell even with a short drive how it compares to your EA82T???

feels very different to the ea. id say about same power at top end (when my turbo was boosting right) but obviously a heap more grunt low down. spins wheels so easy. ive now serviced it so im ready to get my spanking clean engine bay all dirty.

got all the wires and zorst fixed- still very loud :)
