offered a liberty today ej22 and 5 speed whole car. so now whats best ea82t conversion or ej22 na into 92 brumby? also would a haltec f3 ecu do for the ej22 .dont matter i can use it in the other brumby. its got a ea81t and that would tidy up the wiring a bit. anyways whats your opinions guys dont need low rang just motor box n diff n other stuff i know.

The EJ22 will fit with out chassis or cross member mods. The EA82T won't.
The EJ22 is a better motor. It is newer, more reliable, more efficient and has parts readily available.
Power is about the same.
Fit it with an adapter plate and you can have the job done in a weekend.
Use the factory ECU. Again, it is cheap, reliable, runs the motor as it should as soon as you plug it in and easily changed if it dies .

I am going down the path of EA82T in my Brumby, because I have the bits and have seen one already in a Brumby, and the EA82T has same torque of EJ22, and won't need adaptor plate or radiator mods and the fans should fit in between radiator and motor unlike EJ fit ?
I have posted up photos in here recently of an EA82T in a standard height Brumby without chassis or rail mods.
The EA is getting a bit old, so too the EJ, if you got the EJ bits on offer you will get a lot of support and advice from all those that have done it.
Not sure how different EA81 and EA82 are in the exhaust division but I have dummied up EA81 mounted to engine cross member and fitted the turbo cross over pipe. It clears the crossmember with some mild tapping of the factory heat shield. The EA82 uses different mounts but my guess is it will also clear
In the end it is gonna be your decision

I think the EJ22 is probably better mainly because they are much younger so better chance of getting one in good condition .
Any of these flat fours are very expensive labour wise to rebuild purely because they have so many extra components (ask any engine builder) - and the gudgeon pin debacle .
If you have to use genuine parts ex Japan that starts to hurt too after a while .
At least if you fitted an EJ22 and it was a crow getting another is easy compared to trying to find a sweet EA82T .
If it was me and I didn't need a ute I'd just buy a cheap AWD early Lib .

any way thanks for the replys. looks like i might go with the ej got the whole car lib so i got heaps off it i canuse d/r box aswell

sSSEEee guys i bought geffs the one for 2500 got it home had a good look over and decided to rego it for the work ute.and doing this i got a brumby to have as a streeter not race just a cruisergiving me n wrxtc a wrx,street bby and work/of road bby
this forum is the best ive ever bean to .the colective knowlage of the love of subies from all forms ofroad, street all models makes it easier sometimes confusing when its time to work on our cars.well me anyway.what with your boost , blowoffvalves, ej,ea, d/r boxes centre difs L MYGen2/3 cvs shafts and splines.hay but i read all input .
Theres always someone out there that can solve a problem or give us ideas on the best way to go with mods, so lookout guys when i start on this project ill probably be callin out . i am interested in buying a wiring harness forr this project ej to brumby.pluss lib stuff as well
along with the vortex i regoed it as a hack till i sort out everything (hmmm might rafel it(rof holding belly lmao )sorry vortex lovers
this change in modifaction will also mean i got som stuff for sale .the bits n peaces iv bean gathering for ofroad convertion cause the other brumby has it all and more.
the only real thing holding me back is finishing of replacment pump truck for the one i bent (ooohh them raindrops) holding me back.

So you bought Jeffs Brumby with the EA81T, constant dual range, 2" kit, 14"s, bullbar and canopy for 2500 bucks? I can't believe how cheap this stuff is now. I've paid twice that for a gearbox!
