i might as well keep you all up to date with the progress of my swap.
ive finally got a donor motor now so im full pelt into the swap. motor has done 322xxxkm but at least i can get the conversion done now while im on holidays and find a good replacement later on.

yesterday i helped remove the ej out of the donor liberty and also got my ea82t out of the wagon.

tomorrow im having another big day and evening on it so feel free to come along and have a drink at the wackyworkshop.

ill probs be finishing the painting and replaceing timing belt and water pump on the ej. and hopefully getting a start on the adaptor plate.

Nice work Matt!

I love the way you post for an EJ conversion and paint the engine bay at the same time, at least it will look good too!

Keep the pics coming, I love a good write up with pics - probabily why I do them too...

I, like you, think that my old man is a closet subi fan too - we got into a slinging match about his rangie and gail's brumby trying to out do eachother -> "the rangie has a V8" - "the brumby has a punchy yet economical 4 cylinder"... you get the jist of it.
He also checks out what i'm doing/have done to the different subi's around to see what's going on...

Hope its all smooth sailing.

Cheers

love the write ups, just wondering would it be possible when its all finished to take out all of the other comments and just leave the progress photos with commentary. I have been watching BYB's thread and would love it all to be one page step by step.
if ya get my gist

you could i spose but its not really a step by step. theres other information u would need to know that isnt shown by photos. some of this comes out in questions from others comments etc so it would be useful to leave in i think.

i was aiming to have the engine in by this weekend gone but you know how things work. so now ive only got my nights to work on the conversion and uni is back next week! so def got to get it done this weekend.
progress made:
layed out wiring through the car- thanks for the quick turnaround time subarino
made engine mount wedges out of leftover ally
drilled and tapped adaptor plate holes and bolted to engine
radiator support bar welded in

stuff still to go:
some touch ups with the rad stuff like cut a hole for the cap
a little bit of re painting
drill out wedges/ slot x member holes
file flywheel
put motor in
wire it up

wiring is threaded through the firewall
Image
welded rad support (1.6mm angle steel)
Image
im no vidler but it should hold
ImageImage
gave my lift blocks a quick zap too- this flat bar should help keep the captive nuts up where they should be.
Image
if any WA members wanna lend a hand gimme a bell or come round A/H

I hope you have got that timing belt on right... lots have people have attempted them and failed. I have attempted it probably 4 times... suceeded once. Looks easier than it is in my opinion. It's going to be real difficult to fault find if your 180 deg out on it. Looks like your making good process... i hope everything else is smooth sailing.
