I got 'harmonic balancer' on my EA82T
cannot find the discussion where some have claimed subies don't need or have harmonic balancers, just belt pulleys and others have said they have got or seen them - rubber sandwiched in the pulley.

IMO most EA81/82 engines don't rev very high or for very long - they don't breathe very well so there's not much torque up in the rev range (in a lot of ways I cannot understand why Subaru even bothered with the carburetted single inlet port EA82 because minor revisions of the EA81 could achieve the same thing with less weight/bulk/cost) .
Exceptions would be the turbocharged MPFI EA82 - and these don't make power very high up the rev range in std form anyway . I think the fact that the early RX's were partially homologation models for production rally car classes may have had an influence as well .
One other that would be interesting to check on would be the twin carb all revs 1400 engine . Someone I know had a friend that bough one of those things new and reckoned it reved like a turbine so there's a fair chance they made have had a harmonic balancer as well .
Just for the record such a pulley is probably of zip benefit unless you intend to run your (std EA81/2 NA) engine at 6000+ revs on a regular basis or for any length of time .
For anything less it's just a bit more innertia for the engine to have to accelerate/decelerate .
