EA82T fuel filter

Car is running like crap so just going along ruling problems out, I am going to change the fuel filter as I never have yet in this car.

At the moment it does not have a standard suby filter, looks like a commodore one (out of a VL?). Anyone ever heard of this? Think of a reason for it? Cheaper? More flow?

Also anyone know if the EA82 and EA82T filters are the same?

i put a commodore one in mine too, coz it was cheaper. had no probs.

most of them are pretty much the same from wt ive seen. VN thru VT or later

just ask for like VN 6 cylinder.

I just got a universal EFI (make sure its EFI) fuel filter from Super Cheap.
Current rides: 2016 Mitsubishi Triton GLS & 2004 Forester X
Ongoing Project/Toy: 1987 RX Turbo EA82T, Speeduino ECU, Coil-pack ignition, 440cc Injectors, KONI adjustale front struts, Hybrid L Series/ Liberty AWD 5sp

ring diamond guard in tuggeranong 1800 number, i got mine from them, a listing for subaru L series efi, no need to spec turbo

Changed the filter for a with a commodore one again. Works a treat. But the car is still not running great. but I think it might just be down to the 10month old fuel in the tank now.

Ya could be right. Modern day ULP does not seem to have a shelf life. A mate pulled a yammy 80 carby apart last week. As I arrived all i could smell was STALE petrol I thought was years old, but it had only been in since xmas.

So, does ya fuel have a really bad smell to it, more than usual?

Smells probably a bit stronger than usual, but not sour really.
So what’s what the remedy for stale fuel? Just top the rest of the tank up with fresh fuel? Add some octane booster?

use it or remove it (keep, just in case its not the cause) and try fresh. The first 20 litres I used in my new Brumby engine [ea81 carb] rebuild pinged and carried on, didn't like to idle consistently. This cats piss had been around 18 months and six months and mixed. Ran it real low and filled it afresh and by the first 100km or so it ran fine and happy. Dunno why ??? just fresh fuel ??

Hows about using some more technical and descriptive terms ~ crap is so broad a term to use in here for dagnosis.

start up cold, start up hot, all temps, all loads, all speeds, or particular revs/load/speed boosting?? gear

Very lumpy at idle and running. All temps, all speeds. Worse under load, revs easily up its range when not under load although still rough. Very low on power when driving, struggles to reverse up driveway. Surges when cruising along and not under much load, slight surges at idle as well.

I reckon one cylinder is not firing and the injectors are my next suspect.

INJECTORS!!

I had a spare set laying around so i went and got them serviced/cleaned/flowed and then swapped them into my car this weekend.

Idles heaps smoother, low speed driving around town is smoother too. But the biggest difference i discovered, it pulls all the way to 6k with no hesitation at all.
(i had a stumble at 3k and it wouldnt pull past 5 before i replaced them)

Also, if you think your fuel pressure regulator is not working, get one for an N13 Pulsar or a JD/JE Camira (they are the same BOSCH part no.) It is practically the same as the Subaru one, but can be found at your local parts supplier.

and if not them, fuel pressure gauge T'eed in to the line and stuck to the windscreen for a test drive may show some ugly sign, but from my experence with this set up even a deaths door step pump can run nicely free revving, its only when the load comes in that it won't cope

Tell me more about the fuel pressure regs as I am a wreckers rat and Camira's/N13's are grass seed common . A lot younger (well less miles) than your never say die L series donk/reg .

i paid $80 from injectacarb.com

I wouldnt bother with a fuel pressure regulator from the wreckers, its probably gonna be in the same condition as the one in the l series (rubber diaphragm lost its rubber-ness)

I really did not want to pull the injectors out, so I went back and double checked all the simple stuff again. But this time I actually tested the spark leads, one was gone and possibly another as well. It was just the leads:oops: .

Fiddled with the idle, checked the timing, changed some fluids, and shes running sweet now.
