H-Top,.. how about you give all of us a little more info
Introduce yourself, tell us what you drive, what mods you have done to it and what you plan to do with it.
That way, we can get an idea of what would best suit your application.

even stock, an aftermarket ems is going to be good money spent. a mate of mine with a 2002 mazda protege sp20 put a microtech on his car with no other mods and went from a 16.2 1/4 mile time to a 15.5 1/4 mile time, and had better fuel economy to boot!
i'm a big fan of microtech ems's. best value for money out there imo

im running a wolf 3dv4+ and on a standard motor with the only mod being a 3" exhaust and a dump pipe. it made 110kw at the wheels now with the intercooler and a high flowed turbo im maxing my injectors out. so with out a re tune it is making 120 comfy atw. with a tune and injectors im sure the power will come up some more ( but im doing a High comp rebuild and aming for 140/150 atw and keeping my turbo...
so yes for the older moter i think it is a good idea but at the same time have an intercooler installed and if the head gaskets are as old as the motor get them re done because when u run more boost you will most likeley blow the head gasket as well

In short... no.H-top wrote:microtech make an ECU for XT's?
You can buy a microtech and make it work on a vortex, but there is no 'direct replacement' plug in ecu for and EA82 engine.
Being an 85, its gonna be a 3 plug ecu so you only have to control the fuel. Something like this will do the job Apexi AFC neo piggyback ECU
With a piggyback, you still retain the factory stuff the ecu does like cold starts, idle up and closed loop mixture control.

Marginal for both power and economy.
Generally, you will have to sacrifice one to make the other

There isnt much point adding larger injectors until you get a whole lot of air moving through the engine (ie. turbo or supercharger). For now, stick with your ecu and maybe put a different cam in to shift your powerband up a bit. Do a through service and upgrade your coil, spark leads and airbox.
