Bungling car thieves's risky jumpArticle from:
May 09, 2008 11:02am
THREE thieves who tried to steal a car in a dangerous stunt reminiscent of the Dukes of Hazzard movie have been sentenced in New Zealand.
The New Zealand Press Association today reported the three men broke into a car yard in Christchurch in October last year planning to steal a Subaru car.
They built a makeshift ramp out of concrete pavers planning to drive the car over a perimeter fence.
The thrilling escape plan worked but the trio were busted when they returned to the caryard to break into other cars.
James Symons, 21, who drove the Subaru off the ramp, has been sentenced to a year in jail.
His two co-offenders, were found guilty in the Christchurch District Court of unlawfully interfering with cars.
They will be sentenced later this month.

haha that's an awesome story (except obviously for it involving stolen cars). I'd love to think it was an older Subaru however for such a daring attempt I'd imagine it would be a more valuable car being targeted, perhaps a WRX of some sort. They may have been inspired by some of the videos floating around of WRX's doing massively long jumps in rally clips etc.

Maybe to steal the front struts out of another one cause they got all bent on the one that did the jump!

Id like to see some photos
A perimeter fence is pretty high
One would have to have the car moving pretty fast so that it can land on the other side on all 4 wheels. I imagine that any speed under 20kmh, the car would just nose-dive after it left the ramp
