Which Subi's Have EJ20 N/A Engines?

Post by maddog » Tue Apr 29, 2008 3:39 pm

I want to by a complete car (ideally a 'soft' write off) to convert my L Wagon to an EJ20 Non Turbo.
Who can tell me what cars had this motor?
I know that some Impreza's had 'em, early Foresters had 'em (97 - 01), and I'm sure some Gen 1? Liberties had' em - but which ones????
Thanks to all who reply!
88 GL Touring Wagon - getting better all the time... or was until Skippy got in the way one night... writeoff now :(
98 Forester - wotaluvlycar! (belongs to missus) ;o)
91 Liberty Wagon in immaculate condition - can't believe how much nice it is, mine! ;)

Sounds like your on the ball as to which cars have the NA EJ20. Next question should be: Which one is the best option to go for (for a decent price)?

Cheers

I also would like to swap all the running gear and suspension... any suggestions?
Thanks!

no gen1's had ej20.

alot of foresters and gc8 shaped impeza's had ej20's also so do the gen3 gx libbos. ej20's weren't put into liberty's until the gen3 shape.

you will find that price wise they fetch a good amount and you can get a turbo frontcut for the same price or less.

They're actually pretty cheap, gotta go to auctions a bit, @ pickles they usually go from 1500 to 2500 depending on km and damage...

Although i do regret not getting a turbo, i probaly should have spent the extra $ to get a half cut, but even then you dont get the dual range box...

The first Forrie's Ej20 was slightly different to the Impreza Ej20, had plastic intake manifold and less power., but not that much less.

Why get a EJ20 when you can get a Gen 1 Liberty cheap with EJ22 and all running gear a lot better set up.

EJ22 is a viable option but if you are looking for a later model engine then the EJ20 is worth a look but when you do the conversion remember you will need the key if you are using a post 1999 model as they will not run without the original computer paired key. With early Impreza's you also have the Ej18 engine you may consider too.

Plenty of reasons to go NA EJ20 - especially legality in NSW, it is.
