Front driveshafts?

Post by marshy » Wed Apr 16, 2008 10:22 am

Hi , can any one tell me what front driveshafts they have used in a MY with a ej manual box? I have tried the L shafts EFI shafts with liberty outers and they are too long.
The brumby shaft only comes in one size ie (spline count) so it limits what you can put on it.

Any suggestions? Thanks Marshy

I think you have to use the 25spline inner CV from an EFI L series on your MY shaft. Not 100% sure tho sorry.

2wd my coup shafts with my outer and ej inner

genuine shafts have one raised section on them

or use the lseries ones and put in lseries bottom arms
- 92 brumby, ej22, MT5AWD, lseries low range, centre diff lock, glf5 dash, 5 stud conversion
lifted 3" front 2" rear all rolling round on 27" khumo Kl71's
more in progress ie:adaptronic ecu and sc14 supercharger

The spline count on a my outer is 23.Finding it hard to match up a liberty as they are 25 /27.
Mattl200 ive just tried the ford radius with L controls/liberty hub and what is happening is the the driveshaft has to travel at a angle where the driveshaft is just touching the crossmember. I also can adjust the rod but i dont like the severity of the angle. If you adjust the rod too far back the inner bush Control arm L) doesnt sit square.Have you done the conversion? The wheel sits about two inches foward and the track widens.

Did you have any probs with the L series length? What outers were you using.
Thanks

I am in the process of completing a wrx conversion manual trans and 5 stud into a coupe. The front issues solved by a cv specialist and they fitted the correct inner and outer using the 2wd MY shafts. He had a book that showed the different spline counts to use.

When you say 5 stud i take it you mean liberty/rex hubs? If so can you tell what outers you used or a contact please. I want to use same shaft as yours(my shafts) Ive worked the inners out but outers different story.
Thanks For any input.

i had a set of shafts shortend by a machine shop to match liberty inners and outers

n14 pulser long side shafts at lseries length
their made from thick wall tube about 30 or 40mm diameter
if you go looking for pulser shafts they have to be 22 spline both ends (on the end of the shaft not the joints)
- 92 brumby, ej22, MT5AWD, lseries low range, centre diff lock, glf5 dash, 5 stud conversion
lifted 3" front 2" rear all rolling round on 27" khumo Kl71's
more in progress ie:adaptronic ecu and sc14 supercharger

Ian (LegacyTT) has suggested in the past a very clever fix that would come in handy when you need to replace your CVs from time to time. Fit the stubs from an L series box to your EJ box so you use your standard replacement CV. This does not involve the five stud or wider track as far as I know but.

The outer I am led to believe are from an early Liberty. I am on holidays at the moment but will post some more info when I return.

Thanks to jeff aka crossbred i have worked the shafts out.
If using a my shaft and fitting a ejbox and liberty hubs you need a MY2WD shaft (hard to find) which has a spline count of 22 compared to the 4wd version of 23 splines. You can then fit a liberty outer joint and liberty bellhousing to the inner joint.
