My new tyres OR Why I hate 13" sunny's

Post by BaronVonChickenPants » Tue Jan 10, 2006 9:16 pm

These are the new tyres now on my white wagon, they came with my red tourer with less than 1000km on them.
Image
They're Nankang 185/70R13's nice tyres, don't stick quite like the khumos though, that'll take some getting used to.

Image
Nankangs VS's Khumos same size just lots of Km's on them.

So why did I change you ask, because I looked at my wheels and it scared the hell out of me, I mean SERIOUS brown trowsers time. (Click for close up)

And this is why I hate 13" sunnys.

So what am I using now :?: 13 inch sunnys  the tyres were already on them.

Next set of tyres are going on the 14 inch speedys from the rubasu, with any luck they'll be 27" Nankangs or Khumos, then we'll be ready for some fun :D

Yeah i wish i had some 14" rims but i can't afford them.

My 13 inch rims pick up every bump in the road and it is bloody annoying on the road

the 14" speedie desert rats are worse than the stock 13" ones.
The spigot doesnt fit the subaru one so they wheel is held on only by the wheel nuts. Not nice at all.

buy the scorpion wheels if you are serious

LOL - I have 5 of those 13" ones taking up real estate in my shed.

I have had my Speedies on now for 2 years and haven't had any problem. I just keep on checking the lug holes for cracks.

Hmm Scorpions at $185ea - and I hear that Mike isn't making them at the moment anyways. I prefer the offset of a Speedy wheel anyways.

Will look good with 27" tyres Jordan - be sure to put up some pics!

For my tourer I plan to have impreza/liberty 14-15's thanks to bratgebah's kit.

For the time being the white wagon will settle for speedy's eventually it will get bratgebah's kit too and matching forester steel rims

And of course, the will be plenty of pics along the way, I'm just waiting for the rest of my 2" lift to arrive so I can put it in, it came with my tourer but I only got half of it at the time, still waiting on the engine blocks and strut tops

I'll feel better once I get my bull bar, thanks xaymaca.

14" speedy wheels look very different to those 13", also have more steel in the lug area

so I doubt they are susceptable to the same problem.

take the nuts off any wheel, and no wheel is going to stay there for long...so I don't see why point finger at the speedy as being worse?

The problem with the speedys is instead of the spiggot supporting the weight like it should the studs bare the weight, which is fine at first, but after a while the stud holes wear and no matter how tight you make them there's still some slack, at which point you get unavoidable wobble and vibration.

How long it takes to develop this much slack varies depending on many things, the main one being how much abuse you throw at them, but people who give them serious abuse tend to bend, dint and/or buckle them before this is an issue.

Although I love the look of the scorpians I would be redrilling my hubs to 6 stud or going for bratgeebah's kit long before I fork out that much money for a single set of rims.

I said SPIGOT, not wheel nuts. As the above post says the rim is supposed to be supported by teh center spigot and the nuts are not designed to be taking vertical load.

I actaully dint think speedy where making 14" subaru rims anymore. (could be wrong)

Sorry if anyone doesnt like what im saying but the 14" speedies are crap.
