What's DI like at the moment?

I am taking a crew of "never driven offroad before" drivers up there over anzac weekend.

much the same as usual? Is the cross headland track to rainbow still stuffed?

Went up there easter sunday with BYB01. The beach is washed away...ie big cliff and the tide was all the way up...someone picked the wrong time lol.
Definitely head up on low to avoid the rock hopping and wave racing we did and that part will be fine. Still no access to rainbow via the beach, but you can find a good spot out near the point on the rainbow side of leisha track for a swim and there were a couple of ok gutters for a fish. Plenty of pippies and if we had anything to excite worms we could have had a couple more of them too.
There is only one thing you must do in your life. Everything else is a choice.

camping in behind the dunes on the main beach is still cool i hope? I am sick of freshwater campground

Sure is. Not a lot of dunes left any more but you can still camp along there.
