New Spotlights
New Spotlights
Just fitted a set of 100watt spots and I am wondering the best way to wire them up. Can I simply wire them into the highbeam system or do I need a relay ?

"Earth" switched wiring diagram
Did you get the wiring right - the lights don't stay on after you've turne the ignition off with the headlights still switched on? When i first wired mine up this is what happened to me til i was told that the car was "earth" switched rather than being positively switched.
Anyway, here's a diagram that i based my wiring on, sorry for the dodgy drawing...

Hope this is the way you did it.
Cheers

just a note for you
my wiring had a 15A fuse with 2x100 watt driving lights, and it slowly melted the fuse holder :S
this should explain how to work out what fuse you need
current = power/voltage
current = 200w / 12v
current = 16.66 Amps
so with a 15A fuse you probably wont draw enough to blow thw fuse, but it will be right on its limit and cause you issues
next one up is 20A so go with that

yeah you can re-wire your standard headlights at the same time installing extra lights - that'll prevent overload.
