aux problem in 08 impreza rx

hi all
i have an 08 impreza rx and it has an input for an aux device. so anyway i connected my mp3 player to it with a 3.5mm stereo to 3.5mm stereo plug but the sound only comes from the left speakers
i have not changed the balance of the speakers or anything since cds play fine

any help appreciated

Are you sure its pushed in all the way?

Can you test your cable on something else?

are you sure that the lead is deff a stereo lead could be a mono one??

That's what I'd be looking at, there should be 2 (usually black) bands on your 3.5mm stereo plugs and 3 metal segments as a result.
