Check Engine Light

89 L series MPFI. Just put in a 2" lift kit last week and since then the 'CHECK ENGINE' light has come on. Had to replace the speedo cable today and whilst under the dash found 2 sets of connectors unplugged. So I plugged them in and now the CHECK ENGINE light is flashing! I have checked all the wiring in the engine bay and can't find anything amiss.
So what the hell is the CHECK ENGINE light? Niether the handbook nor the Gregorys workshop manual mention it.
Is it OK to keep driving? Temperature normal, oil level ok, coolant ok.
Any advise would be appreciated.............

You probably disturbed a dodgy connector, usually the cause of trouble codes. Look on you ecu under the dash theres a LED that flashes. The connectors you connected were probably the test mode ones. Here are the codes and how to clear them: (you'll be looking at the ones for '87. Thanks Timmo. Looking thru I can see a green LED flashing seven short flashes, so now I am reallllllllllly confused !

what color are the connectors you plugged in??

There are 2 pairs of connectors, 2 terminal Green ones and Black 1 terminal ones.

The green ones are for checking timing, and displaying current codes. The black ones are for reading stored codes. Connect them both and code memory will be erased.

For normal operation, leave both sets disconnected.

7 short flashes shows what model you have. If you look it up i think it will tell you its "EFI Non Turbo Australia"

Thank you everybody. Lean Fuel indicated and I found a rubber tube from the air intake had come loose. All fixed. Once again thank you, it saved me a lot of money!

it is moments like this I start to think these ecu's aint too bad if they tell you what is wrong, you understand and can fix !
