Freekin' hell you have spent some money on it. You might have issues with your skid plate and your new lift kit though.

Thanks for all the feedback. It's not as much money as it seems. Or maybe it was so gradual, that I lost track!

The snorkel is a Safari Snorkel meant for a Toyota Prado 120 Series.

I'm on the North East coast of the US. This is my daily driver and serves as the family vehicle for camping trips. I'm planning to build a sturdier trailer with matching Subie wheels that will hold an Ezi-Awn Family sized rooftop tent in the next year or so.

And finally, I figured I may have to make some minor changes to fit the skidplate once the body lift is in, but we'll get her sorted out.

Btw, I love this site. You guys rock down under! Hope to get down there one day for a nice loooong vacation.

Hey AndrewT. I thought there was a post missing.

The STi decals were sent by mistake when I ordered some of the others so I decided to add them on since eventually I want to do an engine swap with a built wrx engine. Promised the Mrs. I'd hold off until after we passed the 100k mile mark.

It's up to 89k now, so 2009 might be the year for a swap.

Here's a shot with a better view of the snorkel.

Here's the end of the sand trail at one of our favorite beaches. We were told we were the only car to make it down last season. Mostly jeeps and lifted pickups. The trail itself was heavily rutted and the sand was very loose. This year should be a lot easier once the 2" body lift is in.

Will try to get around to loading up the Christmas Eve mud run pics. Messy fun for the whole family!

What does the hood scoop do?

What is the current engine, 3.0L H6 or the 2.4L H4
If its a 6cyl and you wanna upgrade, there are supercharging kits out there for them

I like the silver subaru logo on the sides, it matches the silver bumper/flares/siderunners very well.

very nice setup outback you have there mate, looks like you can go offroad for some time with all the stuff you have on bord there, the car looks great. Love to see it when you have the llift kit in the car, keep the mods coming and the pics.
Looks like you have lots of fun in that car. What dose the wife say every time she sees you have come home with something new on the car all the time?

The scoop actually provides a heat exit for the engine compartment as the lights up front block a fair anount of air flow through the grill. I have a Cusco style scoop in the garage that I'm going to fit this summer.

The design of this scoop is specific to increasing airflow into and out of the engine compartment, so it should do a nice job of keeping things cooler.

The kangaroo decals just seemed fitting on a car named Outback!

My wife has been amazingly good about the whole build and has seen the utility in many of the additions. Especially the fridge/freezer for camping and the big lights for lighting up dark wooded trails! She really enjoys being outdoors and getting to places with otherwise limited access. Plus, it's a big hit with my 3 boys!

The lights are:

Lightforce 240 XGT - 100w - 240mm
Lightforce 170 Striker - 100w - 170mm adjustable from pencil to flood

I run the 170s with the amber filters as fogs and swap the wide/spot clear combo filters when I need full bright light. The 170s are also adjustable by hand from spot to flood. So far, the stock alternator and Optima AGM dual purpose yellow top battery have been sufficient, but I think a second battery and an isolator may be in my future. Especially, if I need the winch for more than the occasional pull!

Question: How well does the alternator cope with all those lamps on and say the rear demister as well? There's some serious current draw when all those lights are on, how many watts are the other foglights I can see there too?

well 100w at 12v is 8.3A, so to be safe we will say 10A (in fact at 14.4V a 100W light will draw 10A)

So 4 x 100W lights will draw about 40A, i dont know what size alternator the US outback has, but thats probably getting close to its limit

itll handle them EASY. Ive ran 4x130watt spotties with my old ea82, no worries, also with the massive stereo going.

Upon further review, the big lights looked like Mickey Mouse ears, so I reversed the mounts and brought them a bit lower.

Still need to finish wiring up the small ones, but much happier with the look.

Bring on the night.
