EJ Conversion Prep: Stripping the loom

Post by stinky » Sun Jan 01, 2006 10:37 am

With the new year upon us I've decided to get off my arse and start prepping my EJ conversion. First thing on the list is stripping the loom. From memory I keep anything that goes to the ECU and get rid of the rest ...

I just want confirmation before I start cutting wires :)

Pretty much. Get hold of a good wiring diagram and basically strip anything going to the body loom. If you're going to use the EJ gearbox keep the plug & wiring for that (VSS). Remember to wire up the check engine light, and if you've got a tacho rewire it to the ECU.

Easiest way is of course to do all of this away from the car, seperate and tag wires that are going to spider into current wiring (harness power and ground etc) and zip it all up in split convoluted tubing. You'll need to decide where you're running the wiring in the car and refer back for lengths, remember most of the time it's better to coil up the excess as there are some shielded wires.

Directions for stripping EJ loom to suit conversion into early model Subaru:

1: Place entire loom in a large cardboard box along with blank cheque
2: Address cardboard box to a Mr Brett Rogers
3: Post said box at nearest post office

hahahaha, that's not such a silly idea... I know sunspares do loom stripping ... maybe I should take them up on it.

Bring/send it here, I will do it for you. Call it a swap for the tailgate/car or some thing.

Okay!!

I think we'll call it a swap for the tailgate, if we call it a swap for the car you'll need to smash it up a bit :)

I've got that front bar for you so can bring it up sometime soon as well if you still need it.
