This issue happened last time I changed to oil in my EA82T.
Using the Shell Helix Eco 10/30 for all oil changes since purchase.
It has been a tad over 5000km since last change, and used same oil and genuine filter. Since the change last week the hydraulic lifters are quite a bit noisier, not that god awful clatter that some L's have but a noticable tick that wasn't there before. Last time this was followed by noticeable oil loss and some smoke out the back. Both noise and oil loss disappeared after around 1000km last time and I don't expect it to be much different this time.
I believe the lighter fractions of the oil are making it past the rings into the combustion chamber to be burnt off, and until it loses these fractions the oil is not viscous enough to fill the lifters properly.
Any ideas???

yes, run a thicker oil, thicker oil generally quietens up the lifters if they're not too far gone.
Curiosity, how many km's has it done? In my old carby ea82 i ran shell "for older engines", worked very nicely, or maybe try penrite hpr 40 or 50.
