Dealer closing

Post by SUBYDAZZ » Thu Dec 27, 2007 7:36 pm

I got a letter from my local(est) Subaru dealer this last week, informing me that they would cease trade from Jan 1 2008.

"We arrived at this decison in an effort to attract and retain quality staff in offering a balance between family and work commitments"

They mentioned something about hard to attract and retain staff and operating costs and decision would be vindicated in time. Not sure if this only means it will not be a new car dealer or if my parts and service department will go also but I'll have to find out.

I know they are going to become a VW dealer now (already did Honda) - http://huntermotorgroup.com.au/. They were Eastern dealer of the year 2005/06 (whatever that means).

Not happy, as now I've got over an hour's drive to nearest accredited dealer, not that this one was that close to home.

Happening anywhere else?

Someone told me that the new Impreza is causing all sort of problems for dealers as they are not moving many units at all.

Excuse the stupidity but I re-read the letter for the first time when not being half-cut and it says cease "Sunday" trading.

'Tis the season. Ignore this thread. :)

I couldn't even get parts or service on a Sunday anyway! I will really remember next time I need to buy a new car from here to not go on a Sunday.

Not sure if it was a stock item but I passed one last week and the tail-lights are hideous. I've never liked the "popular" clear lens aftermarket style and the one on the back of this hatch looked pretty ugly - at least in daylight.

I was told by a salesman at the local Subaru dealer that this Impreza is the least popular Subaru ever made. Sales are right down apparently. My prediction is for a much revised Impreza in the not to distant future.

...second only to the bug-eye variant which got the gong for the fastest ever facelift to the Impreza range when it was wiped in late 2002 from memory. It took around 2 years.

Oh don't worry, that's what I was thinking. Alas, it is not to be. Read the other posts I made :)

The new impreza looks like a try-hard ford focus - which considering the advertising campaign for it is exactly what it is.
