99 Outback - Immobiliser question

Post by Thalass » Thu Dec 27, 2007 5:01 pm

Hey folks. My missus brought me a remote starter kit from Canada a couple of years ago, and while wiring it in doesn't look too hard, there's one thing that's tripped me up: The immobiliser.

Has anyone installed a remote starter in a newer subaru? (or any other new car with an immobiliser) Is there a way to bypass it, or tell the remote starter the code or something? I'm going to have to dig up the box and read through the instructions again to see if they have any info.

The heat this last week has reminded me that I've been meaning to put that thing in! heh.

I don't think you will be able to. With the key needing to be in the ignition for the decoder to work I can't see any way around it. We have tried bypassing it all on engines/computers we have used in conversions and as yet can't find a way to trick it.

One thing you can do is to change the ecu for one from JDM. That model had no immobilizer.

actually it can be done. do you know what brand you have. you will need to have two coded keys to the car from there its fairly straight forward.
DEI make a range of bypass modules 556u is the one you need. they are $45 from memory. the idea is that when the remote is pushed and the car is 'started' the key is introduced via that module and the car starts.

questions ask - I work with these things daily.

Ah! That would be exactly what I need! By brand, do you mean the remote start kit? I'll have to dig it up, it's probably in a box in the garage somewhere... heh.

How do you get the key out of the, um, key? :P I assume then it's not a rolling code on the subaru?

Oh, I like that! I'll have to dig the kit out tomorrow and have another read of the book that came with it. I might be able to get it installed by the end of january!

That would make it... three years and two months to install! hah!
