This is a work in progress. Got a small waterleak that drips onto the themostat housing. Where would that be coming from? Must be behind the timing cover. I wont buy an engine this old again, regardless of the low kays.
Was hoping to start on the 5-stud already but had to walk home yesterday after the fuel pump died. Anyone know whats the output of the stock MY lift pump?

Water pump or the bypass pipe under where the A/C is, if that is there on that motor. Does it only leak while car is running or does it also leak when not running?brumbyrunner wrote:This is a work in progress. Got a small waterleak that drips onto the themostat housing. Bypass pipe was rusted out and has been replaced with hose.SUBYDAZZ wrote:Water pump or the bypass pipe under where the A/C is, if that is there on that motor. Does it only leak while car is running or does it also leak when not running?
Does not have a/c anymore

Only leaks while running and now it has stopped leaking.
It's in the same place. Just the drama of pulling it out.Matatak wrote:The water pump could also be suspect..
but i aitn sure where it is on an EJ20G i no that EJ25 its right above the thermo housing.
Sure is.BYB-01 wrote:Tell me more. Very interesting. Local to me?

Started on the Crossbred Performance 5 stud conversion today. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow.
There is no doubt about the quality of the design and engineering. Everything fits with tight tolerances with all new bolts and brake lines included. It's a shame that Gee decided to pursue other interests instead of continuing to find ways to improve our old Subys.
I'll be running some single spot calipers and ventilated discs on the rear with 2 spots on the front and some old 14" Liberty rims with 28" tyres until my new stuff shows up.
It's been a busy couple of week of shopping. So far I've got-:
15" alloy wheels.
4 spot front and 2 spot rear disc brakes.
Early RA gearbox with the low ratios.
Suretrac viscous front LSD.
and a 4.444 R160
Now I just have to get them here and bolt them on.
Turns out the fuel pump had sucked some fillings out of the tank and one was holding a valve open. Working perfectly again. I measured it pumping over 3 litres/min. It's good to know they are serviceable but I've got a filter before the pump now.

So did I and thats why I was looking for 16"s but it must depend on the wheel offset. The rims and brakes that I've bought have come off the same car so they must clear.Point wrote:i thought that to fit the 2 spot fronts you needed 15" wheels and for the 4 spots you had to have 16" wheels?
I doubt I'll be able to get my 2 spot fronts under my old 14" Liberty rims but at least I'll be able to move the car around without brakes untill my new stuff arrives.
If anyone is interested, the Crossbred kit changes the rear wheel mount surface (WMS) by +1" each side. Of course this means bugger all as the rim offsets are so different between MY and Liberty.

Yes, for the time being. Do you think the later, push in DOJ style are stronger? I am worried that they might pull out at maximum rebound.seagull wrote:those short stubs in the diff are very week , is this the diff you will be running ?
These arn't the hollow open diff type but the solid, different each side, plate LSD type.

Initally I was looking for some 16" Outback/Forester rims but I was concerned about their durability. I like the Superlite 16x7 as suggested by Brett but can't get one to test fit (and havn't actually got anything to test fit it on yet) so will have to hold off on that. Mainly was going 16" because I have some expensive 30" rally tyres doing nothing and the added bonus of bigger brakes.
Then some 15" forged alloys came up at the right price so I'm using them instead. I'll put the 30x9.5" MTR onto them. Don't want to spend up on rims because eventually I'll change to 5 stud VW.
