Could be worse, the 45km stretch of Pacific Highway between Coffs Harbour and Macksville has no less than 6, yes SIX fixed speed cameras. I lost count of how many times the speed limit changed.

It's about time this "stay in power by talking the talk not walking the walk" state government of ours actually pulled their fingers out of Joe "I couldn't give a shit about the rest of NSW (there's nothing outside Sydney anyway) Tripodi arse and did something about their promise to have the Pacific Highway upgraded.

Sorry for the hijack there... I have just done a few hundred k's on the Pacific Highway in the last week, and will do several thousand k's in the next few months on the Coffs to Brunswick run and compared to the DC sections that road is absolutely SHITFUL and the NSW govt should hang their heads in shame for the piss poor excuse for a road is Australias busiest interstate highway...

The NSW government is at least GETTING there - At least they fixed that god awful Burringbar Range (however its spelt!) section of the Pacific Highway in far northern NSW. The new bypass at 110kph all the way down to the Byron Bay area is a god send. You are right though - doesnt atone for rest of goat track that is the Pacific Highway.

Whilst we are on our soap boxes, I question the decision to make the south end of the Bruce Highway (Brisbane to Caboolture... eventually!) only 6 lane. Already it chokes up. Should do it properly and repeated the M1 exercise with 8 lanes. This "planning for the future" is just crazy talk... apparently!

I too, apologise for the hijack - good to get this off ones chest every now and then.

I agree. The 3 lanes from Pine river to the other side of mango hill have already shown it can not cope with the traffic yet they are not making allowances for more lanes. Surely it is easier, cheaper, smarter to make all the bridges and overpasses suit more lanes once. Rather than have to do it again in another 10 years.

Problem is every governing power says they will fix things yet they don't want to be seen as "the mob that spent 256 bazillion dollars" doing so.

There was talk of another road being built to bypass the highway for traffic commuting between Redcliffe/D'bay/Mango hill and the Bribie Island area.

True, worst stretch of highway in NSW, and this is the "semi fixed version", it was a lot worse 20 years ago but don't hold your breath waiting for the upgrade, we've been waiting since the 1960's for the Oxley to be done, 17,000 cars per day on average and single laned, count so far is 120 dead on the 6 km stretch from the hospital to the highway and doesn't look like being fixed till an election hinges on it.

What's wrong with the Oxley? Brilliant piece of road if you ask me, except maybe the Port to Wauchope stretch, but I never drive it:) Always go via tele point....

Do the NSW government have ANY completed 6 or 8 lane highways? I know they have a couple of parts, which take 10 to 30 min ( north of Byron for example) to drive, but I thought that most roads in NSW used to have some black stuff on them, but had reverted back nearly to dirt. ( and new pot hole repairs, which jolt you off the road if you hit them at anything over 40 kph

With the bush fires (at the moment ) and accidents, today, the local F3 freeway ( mostly 4 lanes) grinds once again to a complete halt. This time ( in 45 degree heat - hottest new years day in 60 yrs!) motorists were stranded for up to 6 hours without being able to get to shade or water. - and of course, they wernt allowed to turn around...

The roads around the country are just a shambles ( ang on, ill put the soap box away now) , with no plan to really fix the problems, as far as I can see.

The whole system is like a patchwork quilt

Plenty of plans... the plans are getting done slowly;).... getting there - NOT! ;)
