Bonnet Scoops 4 L series

Post by BlackMale » Thu Dec 29, 2005 1:24 pm

Now i am feeling a lil dirty even suggesting not purchasing a Subaru part however i have been thinking that the ea82t is WELL overdue for a TMIC and therefore will require some assistance from a bonnet scoop, hence my poll question...

Note:
1) The scoop WILL need to fit between the "ribs" on the bonnet.
2) Sorry but this does not include pocket power - no offence intended.

I was looking into scoops when I first got my weber for some sort of cold air intake, origanally I was looking at the hornet scoops till I realised how big the actually are (almost as long as the whole bonnet) then I spotted a nice little one from SSV (sydney special vehicles) for about $70, just after that I noticed the patrols with an almost identical scoop, I figure you should be able to get the patrol scoop fairly cheaply and I reckon it will look pretty good on the suby.

Without going into the technicalities of laminar flow etc etc . . . for airflow through the scoop at speed you're best off with a GT/B4 Liberty style scoop. Not only are they understated and classy, but they work well. Otherwise MY01+ STi scoop would be the go.

The early model WRX scoops actually flow better if you turned it around to face backwards at 100km/h! I think the Patrol scoops are in the same class, but Lightening Silver RX might be able to get you a worthwhile deal.
Monster Subaru sold to a good home!! Still a Subaru owner. Will try stay in the Ausubaru loop. Sorry

I've got a patrol scoop on the mighty brumby, I reckon they look sweet on the MY / L series cars. Airflow wise, I have no idea :)

Muddy i was trying aviod the whole airflow debate as i do not have a drag car... however agree 100% that its critical and even a small gains will be of benifit blar blar blar...

As for the GT scoops they will be massively expencive and you require massive modification to get the things to fit an L bonnet - if they were easier i would have gone that option (1 for the air flow and 2 for the sleeper factor - not that the 82t has heaps of that).

As for the Lightening Silver RX getting me something i might contact him.

Stinky i have only seen 1 L series with a GU style scoop, i will try and havea look on your profile or something for a pic of yours.

I suppose the reason i am thinking about a GU style is that it will require no mods to fit inbetween the ribs on the bonnet.

Thanks

*just to clarify* I meant air flow to the 'cooler, not how it affects the aerodynamics of the car.

its even red, it's the one off of sksuba's old rx if you can find a picture of that.

Cheers Tim

Talk to Oversteer....I know he has just reverted back to a water/air intercooler on his L series and is hunting for a non-modified standard bonnet to replace it.

His is a huge STI WRX top-mount.....might be abit over the top for you but should be effective
This is it...

PS - I have no idea if he is actually intending to sell it.

Without doing any major mods to the bonnet and for the simple way they fit i would use the Patrol scoop again if i out one on another l, they look nice and fit like they where made for the bonnet . i dont have any readliy available pics of my green wagon with one on it but there was the guy who brought it had a post in the forsale section with pics
