Ive only been beaten in my bug eye wrx by one car thusfar...a VE GTS Commodore... Mind you I dont go dragging my car every arvo....( for any cop that may be reading this forum )

That is damn right!
but... there is heaps of skill involved when you take into account a driver-built car. All the skill occurs in the home workshop.
But yes...I have no respect for people who think they are sh_thot for either buying a rediculously expensive car....or just paying a workshop huge amounts of cash to do all the work modifying one.

Actually I disagree....the timing of the gear changes has to be sweet and getting a good launch does take a bit concentration.....well for me it does anyway....

But I'd take any offroading driving challenge too... I dont discriminate...

.....I just felt I had to say something to defend us girls.....just coz were girls doesnt automatically mean we cant drive....thats all I was trying to say.....

SO AM I mate....I'd LOVE to do my own conversion....I'd have a damn ball doing it, take enormous pride in my work not to mention save a heck of lot of money! $$$. I have enormous respect for you lads who rebuild you cars yourselves.... I still hope to ONEDAY do some night classes at Tech doing Auto Mechanical Engineering studies.....so that I can work on my own cars...

My biggest all time DREAM is to have a workshop and slowly restore, paint and rebuild cars in my spare time.....I hope I get there oneday...!!!!

You don't need to do formal studies - just need a car you're interested in fixing up, some tools, patience and time. Someone close by who knows a bit about what you're doing is always handy too. For me, this was my dad when i was 10 - dad showed me an engine rebuild when i was 10. I did my first on my paddock bomb at 13 or 14. I've been playing with cars ever since. My next step is to get into fabricating my own stuff that i want - just need the time and a good welder...

Get a parts bomb and go from there

Yer u dont need formal training, just stick to working on cheap cars at first, and cars which you can afford to have off the road for extended periods. Buy a good quality socket set and away you go!
(no mechanical training here either, I just love pulling stuff apart, and sometimes re-assembling it).
