so im basically going off good ol' Subarinos Pics of his Surge tank here.
am i right in thinkin the top 3 outlets are 8mm and the bottom is 12mm as thats the same size as the Inlet on the VL fuel pump. (gettin 8mm on is no fun job

)
also wt thickness do ppl do em? and wt general capacity?
liek 1 litre maybe 2 tops im thinkin aswel.
also why do ppl make em round? surely that are easier to make rectangular

I think the bootom outlet was 10mm.... but i seriously can't remember... i might need to measure it for you.
They can be any shape although people find they are easier to make with using large diameter pipe to base it off.
When i got mine i looked up a lot of info saying that about 1L was the smallest you should go with.
Mine is another fine Vidler made product.

Are there any legal issues with mounting these under the bonnet rather than the back of the car? Just that i don't see how i'm gonna fit a 1 ltr cylinder under there unless i cut out the floor pan which to me is not an option.
Cheers
Bennie
PS: very nice looking work there subarino.

Forgot to add... As you know it's a bad idea to heat fuel... when the tank is in the engine bay it does get hot... i wouldn't do it personally.

Lapseds Wagon currently runs a setup with the Surge Tank in the engine bay doesnt he?
cant see it beign a problem sitting on the back of the spare wheel ledge thingo.
El Freddo a EFI tank is probably the best option for you seen as its slightly out of shape atm

Thanks for reminding me matatak. Now when my fuel gauge gets to the "E" i get nervous as i don't know when the fuel runs out now
I've heard that the EFI tank is good but isn't a completely fool proof solution.
I might as well upgrade my fuel lines while i'm at it - I think it could be the old smaller diametre metal carbie lines that is making the engine drop off between 3 - 4,000 RPM when full throttle. After 4 she comes on good and strong until I chicken out, usuallly at 5,500. Just once i'd like to touch the rev limiter, but would most likely do it at idle.
Cheers

Swirl pots . I can never figure out why people make them with the low pressure or lift pumps fuel entering the pot up high . You want the coolest fuel entering the pot down low because this is where the EFI pump draws from - down low . Also the greater the volume the lift pump can move the cooler the fuel in the pot will be .
The volume of the pot only alters the the length of time the engine can run without fuel arriving from the main tank ie fuel completly away from the lift pumps pickup . Don't forget that all the fuel being bypassed at the EFI fuel pressure reg is returning to this swirl pot so effectively all thats not being retrurned is that going through the injectors . With a litre of fuel you could go a fair way even flat stick . I cant imagine anyone driving flat out on full lock long enough to consume a litre of fuel too often .
Given a choice I'd make a swilrl pot reasonably small and tall rather than fat and short , believe it or not 3" bore tube works just as well as 4 or more and I've seen successful ones the size of a drink can . I think anywhere between 700 to 1000 mills is fine for an 1800-2000cc engine .
You calls but personally I'd use the factory EFI tank because it simplifies everything and looks factory for a normally driven car .

if there was an EFI tank available for MYs i sure as hell would not be running a Surge tank either... we have em cos we must... not cos we want em.

Fair enough , anything available in USDM ?
Long shot but if the MY tank has a large enough top plate to access the fuel level float device sometimes you can place the swirl pot in the tank via the top . It sounds like the L series tank doesn't bolt into an MY .
With other cars occasionally people have found std EFI tanks from some other make/model and grafted them in .
Have the US brothers/sisters at USMB fount any easier alternative ?
Cheers A .
