Grasskana and Seal Hill Climb

Post by ToyRX » Tue Dec 06, 2005 6:03 am

Had a couple more events recently - A Grasskana organised by a local Subaru enthusiasts club.

I was the only old school sub there with a few series 1 and 2 RS Legacys a Fozzy and a heap of WRX's including several STi's. Had heaps of fun on four cources and won the first two slightly twistier ones then was 5th in both the other two - 2nd overall I was done over by a Version 8 STi with a fully comitted driver 8O

results here (I am 1ST4X4) - http://www.clubsub.org.nz/modules.php?n ... &start=210

Last Sunday (4th) I had my first seal hill climb and decided to only run road tyres to keep cost down. All I can say is holy crap, talk about understear, a vaguely scary way to spend the day and no where near as much fun as gravel.
I’m not convinced that seal is really for me, huge understeer and not a lot of fun really – but it was good learning all the same.
I managed to stuff one corner up big time, I was hard on the brakes coming into a tightish Left then right around a bluff when I dropped the FR into the big –ive camber on the inside of the LH corner and this lightened up the tail a bit much which resulted in a lockup on the rears and a FAST attempt at an overtaking manoeuvre by the rear of the car! 8O  , I was not keen to even try and catch this one as if I stuffed it up the drop on the other side was not inviting to say the least so I tried to keep it dead sideways to scrub of speed and I nearly got away with it until I just kissed the clay bank with the RR corner – bugger  . Broke the bumper mount and a 15cm wide dent right in the corner, pushed it in 5-6cm. I was still in second gear so just kept rolling and carried on – haha.
That run (2nd) was my best for the day as they mistimed my 3rd run which was obviously a bit cleaner!!

Ended up near the bottom in class but expected no different.

Hi There,

Great to hear the RX is going well. We have no events on till about March so are getting itchy feet reading about your events although friends are having a $1000 or less car race on December 29 which I have bought an old Mercedes 450se for. Will be interesting to see how it goes against the Aussie built Commodores and Falcons etc. There is a field of about 12 cars so far so I will make sure to get some great footage and pics and put them up here early in the new year.

You should check out the wireless spy cameras on ebay frmo China. You can pick one up for about $20 and mount it inside your beast to tape some nice footage without trashing a good video camera.

The Merc should be a bit of fun :D

I am saving my pennies for the gravel series (Hillclimbs and Rally sprints) that dont start until late April or so. I would rather learn the car and develop my feable skills on the more progressive loose stuff.......

should be entertaining catching up with each others efforts durring the year.

What else do you need for those wireless cameras? what does it record onto? a laptop or something? do tell more....
