Liberty now 257,000kms
My Liberty is now at 257,000 kms, no sign of burning oil, does not use oil, compression are all still strong, engine is running very well, when it comes to 260,000kms which is next service and will be approx Nov-December when it comes to it, will require new spark plugs, coolant etc
Oil remains a question, It has been running castrol magnetic almost most of its life, and I don't feel comfortable with Castrol as I always liked using Penrite before I got the Liberty.
Now, its getting higher kilometres and I want it to reach to whatever how many kms - as long as possible, should I change the oil brand to a better brand to give better life for the engine? Price doesn't matter to me, just wanted good quaility oil, no one really can tell me what I should use, one mechanic says valvoline, other said uses Nulon etc but again all cars are different...
Thanks for your inputs.
Cheers

Mines nearly hitting 300 000 and i've been recommended to use a (thicker) oil, i'm not sure how its measured in oil,
normal oil
10 (somethings)
and it goes thicker i think
15 or 20 (somethings), which i will start to use soon...
hmm would like a response to this,
just to let me know what i'm talking about as well?
Am i nearly right haha... or wrong.

If you change to a synthetic with the amount of Ks on the engine seals it will more than likely develop a mass of leaks. Magnatec is a semi synthetic and is a pretty good oil when compared with oils in its price range and does put to shame some more expense oils. I am not a big fan af Castrol oils but have found Magnatec to be a very good oil. If you still want something way better then there are some really expensive mineral oils and sythetics that are worth a look.
As regards to thicker oils in an EJ engines have very small lifters so the thicker you go the harder the pump has to work to keep em filled. If the lifters are getting noisey its probably time to replace the 2 seals of the oil pump. Low or no oil pressure will kill an engine real fast
