L Series RX/GLTA/mpfi tank sender unit ??

Post by steptoe » Thu Sep 13, 2007 12:57 pm

went to do an internal examination on my fuel tank yesterday (via sender unit hole) and found it was not the same as the old carby L or maybe even the 85 GLTA (too much inside its boot to see!) The 3/ 87 GLTA does not have a screw removable inspection plate for where the tank sender unit should be. It is either glued or spot welded in place, so i figure it won't be there even if i can remove the plate. The manual sort of indicates that is where it should be. First hand experiences ??

the answer is...the plate is simply stuck in place with black body sealant

yes black sealant, BUT there should still be 3? screws. I think i'd be worried about pressure blowing it off otherwise.

misunderstanding alert!!

sorry if i misled you. I meant the cover that exposes the tank sender unit. The sender has five nuts and a rubber seal, the plate just black goo , but remove it and you see three tapped holes in boot floor???
