Timing on EA81 Dual Port
What Timing on EA81 Dual Port (read cam as well) are people using? I am around 22 Degrees of advance, i was wondering if this was to much?

Unless you're running av gas it'll probably be pinging like crazy under load, 10-12 is about normal, then again it's not uncommon for timing marks to be off after a rebuild, I think hughybabes (spelling?) EA81 twinport was no where near normal after the rebuild.
Find a nice incline and at about 40-50km/h put it in 4th or 5th and push the accelerator all the way to the floor, if it pings back it off a couple of degrees and try again, repeat untill it doesn't ping anymore.
Jordan.

I already tried that up cardwell range with the bike and gear on the back and i couldn't get to ping.... (running premium to although AV GAS could be fun). Cardwell range is about 5 km of 10-15 degrees rise.
It basically won't even idle at 10-12 Degrees, or idles very rough (this is not mixture as i have metered it with an air / fuel meter and it is about 13). I know all the timing is right because i had a geniune Subaru EA81 manual (Thanks again Turtle) and gregories, not that it was much use, to set the cam, etc.. but it is interesting someone else with similar set up and running similar advance...

I tested several timings and found 14degrees was best on the Ampol Gold 98oct

timing is gong to depend on your cam ain't it ? if you have a unique cam and engine and compression your timing may be unique too. You are talking initial timing aren't you ? What you also ned to account for is mechanical advance ( centrifugal weights and vacuum) also known as total advance. Make some marks along the flywheel for aditinal advance on 20 say every two degrees up to 36 or 40 and then stick timing light on and rev, suck on vac advance line to see what your total advance is
Yeah i am talking initial timing... with no vacuum or mechanical advance. I am pretty sure it has to do with the cam, i might advance it some more and see if i can get it to ping and go from there.
