run on/turbo timer

Post by Subafury » Sun Aug 19, 2007 9:40 pm

just recently - for about 2 weeks now - when my car turns off it runs on for a little bit and then pops a little backfire. it doesnt happen all the time but its strange to have suddenly started happening.
the only thing i can think of is that i tapped into an ignition wire off the turbo timer for my new thermo fan about the same time it started happening. but i dont really think this is the cause.

ea82T on PULP.
any ideas?
EDIT: btw i am going to get the car's microtech ecu tuned in the next couple of weeks, will they be able to fix it through this? because im guessing some sort of fuel mixture is wrong

Try taking the thermo fan off that wire as a quick test.
Is the thermo drawing all it's power from there or did you use a relay?

It could be that your engine has now got a carbon build up and "diesel's" after the ignition is switched off. This also happens when the car is running hot. A change in the fuel mixtures if they are incorrect should get rid of this problem after a while. Try running some engine cleaner through the fuel and see if there's any difference.

But then again, being an MPFI Turbo it shouldn't be dieselling as there should be no fuel in the cylinders (injectors turn off when ignition is turned off, just like the spark i'd imagine...).

Yeah, i don't know what its called but i'd imagine that there is something out there that you add to your fuel to clean out carbon deposits in the cylinder...

thx for the input fellas but turns out it was the thermo without a relay causing the run on. problem solvered.
