How long before an engine blows?

In a previous life, at VW meets the organisers wouyld occasionally set up an old motor, run it flat out, taking bets on when it would let go.

Have an old EA82 - blows smoke, is a real dud...but runs.

How long do you reckon it would run for at WOT?

Not sure how long it would take - I remember a video from ages ago of a rotary doing the same thing. I would guess 3 minutes, might be an idea for a poll?

You will have to video it of course, would be hilarious!

With oil or without? Cooling?

I reckon one would go a whole lot longer than 3 minutes if there was oil and water at WOT....

Without either, I think it would still go more than 3 minutes, I'd call 15...

There was a similar experiment apparently done at a car meet in WA.... they used an EA81 up against a variety of different engines... i can't remember the numbers but the EA81 was the last to blow. This was without oil or water.

Youd have to hook up a tacho to see how many revs an unloaded carby motor will do WOT, over an extended time.

I also have a spare carby motor that will be goin to the scrappers. Hmmmmm, got me thinking now
