i am thinking about taking my ea82t and converting it to a 5 speed manual with 4wd on demand, is this a bolt up, or am i in for more than i think? the turbo is a 1990 and automatic , the one im getting the tranny from is a 1990 non turbo.

It shouldn't be too hard to convert your auto turbo to the 5 speed manual... I'm guessing when you say "on demand" 4wd you mean part time 4wd? Best option would be the dual range 5 speed manual, easiest box to find for these cars.

I've never done this before in the L but this doesn't mean that it can't be done.

Things you will encounter are:
- pedal cluster will need to be replaced
- ECU -> does this control anything on the gearbox? could be a problem if so.
- Drive shaft may be different
- Crossmember may be different and being an auto body the manual crossmember may not fit - apparently the auto body's have a larger gearbox tunnel to fit the auto in.
- Change of dash centre to manual from the auto one

If you can get another complete car and do the swap this would make it easier and cheaper than running back and forth from the wreckers...

Other than that, time and patience...

i agree totaly,i am actually in the process of doing this myself only i'm going d/r tranny,which is not common where i am but i dont see the point in any other tranny myself.I am not needing a parts car only because a good friend of mine has 35 or so of these cars on his property,but otherwise i would want a donor.One thing to think about also is possibly swapping the wiring harness itself with the manual which i am going to do.If you have the skill and patience for electrical work you could modify the original but i think its easier to just swap the whole thing out,since there are differences between the two that will hold you back.

Oh and yes the driveshaft in the auto is shorter and the crossmembers are different as well.

thanks. i do have a donor. basically i have the chance to pick up a 1990 loyale turbo automatic with a bad tranny for $200. currently i own a 1994 loyale non turbo, manual. i really just want to know if its worth the 200, and my time

Hmm? i dont think we got those here in the states-gl-10 i guess would be the same thing.

yeah. im in the u.s, its just the 90 when the changed the name from gl to loyale.

Yes its worth your time and effort You will have to also adjust the idle speed when you put the manual in (reduce it). If you have a donor car it will be easy. Unless your auto is a 4 speed the ECU wont be an issue
