I now have more or less finised this modification and WOW am i impressed. This would have to be one of my top 5 modifications for an MY subi. I can do a drawing up of the wiring if anyone is interested... including how the relays need to go...etc etc

Running just the normal H4 globes i think they are 55watt low and 100 watt high.
The things really make me realise how crappy my spot lights are.

how does the low beam compare to standard?
and are your high beams that much better than the spotlights? (im just tryin to gauge the brightness as i have the same spotties as u.)

Low beam is HEAPS better than before... But im sure my 20 year old wiring was partly to blaim.
I basically don't need spot lights now. And i can't really tell when the spot lights are on... i either have a small voltage drop problem with the spot lights or the high beam are infact better than my spot lights.
Can't wait to go offroad at night to test them.

i assume there is a similar kit for the dual head lights... i would guess they would cost more though.
Im not saying everyone would get the same results, just saying mine were MAJOR bad before and i now have the best headlights i have ever had one of my subies.

I would appreciate some wiring diagrams if you don't mind, hope to do mine in the next few weeksSuBaRiNo wrote:I now have more or less finised this modification and WOW am i impressed. Might have to investigate this myself. Gotta admit never thought headlights switched earth, which would explain theory application did not match what I've found in the past ! Great drawing.
Not being picky , just a trivia share, but recently learned from an auto elec tech teacher that 85 is regarded as the earth on the coil of a relay even though they work OK sdrawkcab, unless you use the diode protected relays.
And $ you guys paying for the conversion kits ?

I have done a lot with relays... never worried about mixing terminals 85 and 86 around. I work in the automotive electrical field too.
The official standard for the wiring is pin 85 for earth because of some relays containing components.... i belive most don't.
Conversion kit was around $140 from memory... only contains the replacement head lights and globes.
Note that i belive it's only 83 MYs and later that are negative triggered. Before 83 i think are positive triggered so the wiring would be different to the diagram shown.
