Just got a brumby

Hey guys

It's Trent here the one on the west coast trip with the GX Impreza.

I just got a 1983 Brumby which is in excellent condition for the low price of $2600 now I want to do the ej22 conversion on it, but here is the catch I want it to stay road legal.

Here are the plans...
- EJ22 & Requirements
- 2" Lift Kit
- 5 Stud Conversion (maybe)
- Bull bar and Perhaps Roll bar
- AWD/4WD Gearbox

I've started to fill out the modification application form but I have no real knowledge of what is stock in the Brumby if any one can help me out with information on Brumbys expecially 1983 it would be greatly appriciated.

Also since I will be looking for parts we might as well say the above list is also a WTB list

1983 is a good year

does evry1 who does a conversion and wtnot have to fill out a Application form?
im guessing that wuld mean i have to fill in some crap botu my car when i convert the engine aswell

looking at that application sheet to wt a waste fo valuable time that culd be spent on say gettin the new motor in lol

Yes to be road legal you need to do the application form, well in Tassie I would assume the other states have a similar process, then when that form is completed they tell you if you if there are any other requirements and if you need an engineering certificate or just an inspection for the modplate.

Congrats on the purchase, its in pretty good nic from the few pics I've seen, and a great colour as well! Beige ftw.

Does it have to legal down to the last detail?
2" lift is ok, doesn't need engineer certificate or even rego/pits inspection
Legal 5 stud conversion is a lot harder now the crossbred kit is no longer avaliable.

There is a gen1 liberty wagon in Triabunna with a good EJ22 and 5dr, it had a fire in the back, mechanically all good.
He will be looking for $1500 or so for it.

Humm, a liberty on the opposite coast... the annoying bit is the road trip to go get it, its not much fun driving the entire day, what would be worth while salvaging off it engine and gearbox? If you haven't realised I dont know much about cars most of what I know is what I've learned off Fatz while annoying him at work.

Also if anyone has a front passenger side indicator cover lying about I would love to take it of their hands.

Well done Trent, that will save the Impreza from abuse. I can help out with the 5 stud conversion, same setup as on Adams car if you want. Will PM you a price once I check the machinist is still keen. This would need Lib Hubs/brakes etc and the use of the old drum off the Brumby to salvage it's spline. I would have most of the parts here.

So would it be road legal to do that conversion Ian ? the other option i was thinking of is to source some blank 15" rims and get them drilled for the 4 stud.

I whipped up a wooden panel to mount a cd player aswell

I might have to hunt down some grey paint to make it blend in

i once got told redrilled rims are illegal

yes to redrill a set of rims is illegal but he is gonna buy a set of BLANK 15inch n drill them to 4 stud

Err, drill + jigsaw + sander = faceplate of course I did it myself, I just used my dads tools.

Scrumby was indeed sexy, but my desire for a brumby has gone on a lot longer than that, the dune trip in general just pushed me that little harder to get myself a toy.

Just cleaned the interior light cover it had about 2mm of dust built up in there, no wonder it only glowed and didn't actually light anything up. might have to change it to LED lights and make another cover for it so it actually lights the whole cabin up.

Now I'm wondering about changing the headlights, anyone know where i can buy ADR compliant Xenon HID assemblies with high and low?

a little wood grain on the dash looks OK in the photo. i got a free sample pot from a house paint shop, said i was after a dark grey for a feature wall wanting to blend in/ blur out the casing of my telly

I did my dash like this..handy when your son is a sheet metal tradesman...paint is from surplus on shelf in the shed...mobile phone carriage for trips...all wired and hands free...I could have given it a wipe before I took the photo..sorry...

If Pringles still use an opaque lid and you want better light inside an can borrow your dads jigsaw again just cut the arse out of the light fitting and sit the Pringles lid in there, works a treat

As it shows, why not get a touring wagon console and spend some time on it so what you wont in it will fit nice and net and even put some foam under the trim.
